American Eagle Ammo FAIL........

Post by Reverend Herc » 05 Nov 2014, 19:18

So.... A picture is worth a thousand words... You do the translation... First epic fail ever by my 5.7.... :furious:

Insert "F" Bomb Here!!!

After I cleared obstruction from barrel...

I had shot about 100 rounds before I had this failure... My first thought was fudge, Now I will need to send her to "Elite Ammo" to figure out what the bleep happened... However, she seems to be doing alright after some TLC and mild molestation.

I have not sent my grievance to Federal Ammo but that will come soon.... Please keep this in mind that I have never, had a problem with my FN and I do not recommend AE ammo for anything other than training...

Federal doesn't load this :0 Fiocchi still does with FN brass. We've all seen this happen with SS197SR as well.

Hey Rev, had you cleaned it before shooting that 100 rounds? I shoot around 300-500 AE rounds when I go shooting with the kids and have never had mine look that dirty. It also appears that you have an excess amount of lubricant on those parts which is attracting the grime. I have fired over 4000 rounds of 5.7 AE ammo now through my FSN with no issue other then some bullets with sub par performance which I suspect is from the lack of glue holding the bullet in and lowering the pressure. This is the first case Ive heard of a case separation with 5.7 AE ammo.

Here's a copy of the email I got from Hornady about the 40gr FMJ with all the personal info removed. My original inquiry is on the bottom.

Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately that bullet is made under contract and sold only to the contract holder. Our SKU#22cal 40gr VMAX bullet will work in the 5.7x28FN cartridge.

About a year ago American Eagle released a 40gr FMJ load for the FN 5.7X28. I contacted Speer about getting the bullet as a component, and they suggested that you make it for Federal. If so, can I get a big bag of them?

She was a cleaner than a baptist preacher before she went to the range that day....

My guess is when the case separated that the unburned powder went everywhere... However I find AE is the dirtiest of all the 5.7 ammo. This may be a crappy "lot" of ammo i have, who knows...

Rev do you still have the lot number and date from that batch. I have about 1500 AE rounds left from various batches. If I can match one close enough or the same I can shoot some to help confirm a bad batch or that they are reducing quality. That crap sucks having a case separation.

I bought some of this at a gun shop, then search on here to see if the ammo is any good and this is the first thing that comes up...
I guess this means its range ammo then?
