IDTANDY, as a retired military, you qualify for the LE/Military forums as well. If you're interested, drop me a PM and we can discuss things.

Hello Everyone, my name is Sam, I'm from the Rio Grande Valley (Texas) and I'm the proud owner of a fnh Five-Seven IOM, PS90, & F2000. I've been hanging around the sight for a while now. I hadn't become a member since I had no need to post, but I guess it's time to make myself visible. I recently became aware of FNH by accident. I was trying to buy a ak-47 for myself a personal collection, and a gun dealer friend of mine said he had just gotten in a p90. Well when I saw it, I was in stunned and impressed, and since then have purchased all three. (My WIFE isn't happy at all )
Well, to make a long story short, I'm here, this is a great informational sight, and look forward to new things that come out!

Re: New Member Introduction
Hello all. My name is Charles and reside in NC. I bought a Fiveseven a year ago, love the platform so much that I finally broke down three weeks ago and purchased a PS90. I have put a couple of hundred rounds through it the last two weekends and must say it is a lot more than the safe king I thought it would be- just have to get a second job for ammo. I have been lurking for a while on this forum and have found it to be extremely helpful. Thanks.

Honest Review for a Newbie
Okay. I've bought like 4000 rounds from MidwayUSA, and I'm on wait list for two FN Five-SeveN USG's-one for me, and maybe one for my wife (if she'll carry it). I don't know what they're gonna charge me when they arrive.
I've already got a Colt Commander .38 Super Semi-Automatic. Two .357 S&W revolvers, and a bunch of rifles and shotguns. The Colt .38 is about the same size, but weighs more, and with only 6 rd magazine.
I'm interested in this gun to carry, primarily because of weight and size of the magazine, but I'm worried about the price. The ammo bill alone was a fortune.
Compared to what I've got, is this gun worth it? (If this sounds confrontational, it's not meant to be.... heck, I've already bought the ammo).
Many Thanks
edited for typos and content- sorry!

Re: New Member Introduction
Greetings all! Thanks for allowing the shrink to join! Mr. Slippy is always telling me about different articles and stories posted here, so I figured it was time to check things out for myself. I enjoyed the article posted yesterday (I think) about Hep C and other infectious diseases; I think people definitely get too lax in protecting themselves and underestimate the risks of contamination. The stats noted in the article were a few years old, but in my own experience I would definitely say they were below the actual rates of infection. I would guess that it's closer to 80-85% of the prison population that's infected with Hep C. Please note that this is just my own opinion, not that of the California Department of Corrections, and I'm sure they'd deny the rates being that high if you actually ask them. Keep in mind that I worked on a level IV yard for over a year though with a lot of lifers, so my numbers may be inflated due to the type of guys I dealt with. I'm now on a level II yard with mostly short-termers and parole violaters, so maybe I'll change my mind.
Mr. Slippy says that this site is about "guns and stuff" so I have to limit my discussion to that. We'll see how that goes. My experience with "guns and stuff" is as follows: I had a CCW permit in Idaho for several years, then moved to CA. Working on getting one here, but the Californians seem to be a little more anal in who they allow to have a CCW. I have a Glock 26 of my own but usually share in Mr. Slippy's assortment of weapons when we go to the range. As noted above, I currently work for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation at the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison at Corcoran. Please note that this is NOT Corcoran State Prison as someone else told you(it's good to know that Mr. Slippy pays enough attention to know where I actually work). Our facility is next door to Corcoran State Prison but we've only been open since 2000, and we don't have quite the controversial reputation that Corcoran does (yet).
Again, thanks for letting me join - I hope to learn a lot from you all. I promise not to "shrink" anyone (AKA analyze); I tend to be more into the weirdos instead of normal folks anyway. =)

This board kicks ass. The mods do an awesome job! And the people here are top notch. If you have any extra time on your hands you can shrink me (beats paying for it). I am an alcoholic cynic. see posts after 12:00 midnight. :thumb:

Here is my intro
Glad to be back. On the old forum I was 5.7190 and I am not sure why i changed, probably due to the purchase of my tactical-super gun, But i miss the old name. :p
I am 25 and started shooting guns about 2and a half years ago. I began researchign the different models and was very attracted to the 5.7. I think it is a beutiful gun. It is a unique gun and is able to suit unique purposes. I like the fact that it's a super varmint pistol, and a hell of a self defense weapon. After a little more research I found the forum last year sometime, and this is an awesome forum. The mods and big cheeses are very knowledgable and helpfull. Take care all! Tim in hillbilly eskimoville MN.

Welcome to all!
Especially Dr_Slippy. When Slippy said you were coming we thought it was a great idea, then I suddenly realized that would probably mean that Gregg would start acting a wee bit more...er, LESS like Slippy.
Or would he? I mean, you LIVE with him, so you know what he's like. hehehehe
Yeah, this could be good.
Oh, and Doc, if you feel the need to shrink some of us, you just go on and do it. I could stand to lose a few pant sizes anyway! :lmao:
Besides, there's a few folks here that need to know they're nuts anyway! We know, but they have no clue... :skep:

Re: New Member Introduction
Hey guys. Army in early 70's, then did a career as a state trooper in PA. Was firearms instructor which afforded the chance to go to a bunch of armorer schools. Have a few post grad degrees and spend some time on the lecture circuit. This made me skeptical of all I read on the 5.7, and happened upon the first intelligent firearms forum where people exchange info and not tell unrealistic stories of the 43rd sandbox tour with supersecret recondo unit fighting space invaders. I just like the relaxed pace and demeanor here. Now I'm living in TX where I'm state chaplain for the Fraternal Order of Police, a great group I joined over 30 yrs ago. Blessings to all.

:agree: for some reason, the mall ninjas have steared clear of the fivesevenforum... Perhaps its because most of them would be more interested in Desert Eagles with side mounted grenade launchers and "ported silencers" than pea shooters like the 5.7x28

Some reason?
I think I know the reason, it's my super ninja team of mods/admins, and the members usually don't tolerate such forms of jack assery.

That's perfect!! That guy I'm sure is an Operator. When I was in the service an operator was the old lady on the phone if you DIALED "0". He looks more adept to do the telephone job.

Re: New Member Introduction
Well, we have our share of armchair commandos that show up here, but it doesn't take long for the gecko45's to be 'ferreted' out and escorted to the door. Usually MO finds them first and plays with them (sometimes to death...like a cat does a mouse). Sometimes he leaves their battered remains on the doorstep for others with mad ninja skills to see as a warning, often times not.
Mall ninjas and catbox commandos have their place in the Playstation Universe but the only purose they serve here is to burn up our oxygen.

Re: New Member Introduction
Ok for the second post...
I had joined this site when it was in it's previous incarnation to learn more about the 5.7 and found the best way to learn was by just watching you folks post. (the reloading data for the 5.7 was great stuff) Had to email Elite to ask what happened to the site, because I got away from using it for a while, then when I went to my old bookmarks it would not come up. The folks at Elite were pretty darn nice about emailing me back and giving me the new site info.
Yes I have been tempted to post many times, but feel that unless there is something worthwhile to add that it is just better to lurk and keep the cluter down some. This is the only site I have ever paid for a membership for, which meant I valued what I got from here enough to chip in a couple of bucks. That said, I won't be getting any awards for posting on a lot of threads.
I collect things, usually gun related, the FN thing started with the 5.7 pistol I got for a christmas present one year, it grew from there to the point where I am about as much of an FN snob as those twisted folks who like Glocks. I think I own enough of FN's stuff I should buy stock in it. But FNs are only part of what I have. I can say that I don't own a Glock, have no interest in owning one, and yes I have shot one to compare it to the FN.
I work for the Army, in Iowa of all places, at a desk doing nothing gun related. Yes I spent a year overseas in Kuwait, again working at a desk, it was a busy desk, and the year went very quick, you might say I had the best deployed year ever, because every day I came to work, another unit was one day closer to coming home. I have seen "real" soldiers and they have my utmost respect. It was a true learning experience. And I learned about a few more guns that I had to add to my collection from being around a crusty Major who had a thing for M1 Garands and M1As. He is the reason I added both to my collection, and he was right, they are sweet rifles.
So there you have it, typical guy who likes guns, the warped sense of humor in the cage, is in the Army and lives in Iowa. And finally decided to post today. Must be the Christmas spirit.
PS, the avatar, for those who don't recognize it, comes from the logo on a CETME rifle, another of my interests because I was too cheap to go buy a H&K G3 or a clone. The SB is for Santa Barbara, part of the Spainish defense industry, they made the Cetme and the 7.62x51 ammo for it. It's a neat design, and it's different.

Re: New Member Introduction
Well, my brother (tdevince) has finally convinced me that I need an FN 57. My gun is on order and I am getting my accessories ready (unimax laser sight, reloading stuff, holster, etc.) and, of course, I had to join this forum. My brother posted a picture of me on the old server and I have taken my user name from this - Yes, I am Dog Slayer.
I have been a shooting enthusiast for many years and I look forward to leaning about this gun / cartridge as I explore yet another avenue in shooting and reloading. I know there are a lot of knowlegeable people on this site for me to learn from.

Stories on Tom, Wow! I don't think I have enough time!
Re: New Member Introduction
Lisa,
The problem with that is I have as many stories on him as he does on myself. Fear of retribution is not all bad.
