Any Incidents in Range Stories

Hi Everyone,

New to this forum after purchasing a new fiveSeven. I was wondering if anyone has any stories of accidents at gun ranges. I was in Houston visiting a friend when the guy two stalls down from us, shot himself in the head. I've never thought it would happen, but really hits home being so close.

No accidents as yet thankfully, just a few near misses & horror stories of people being unsafe. Sounds to me like your guy was not accidental but at least he didn't take anyone with him.

I was in a range in Florida years ago when a guy came in a rented a pistol, walked out to the range and loaded one round in a Berretta
and shot himself in the head.

Only other "accident" that was close was had a guy at the same range firing a Ruger Blackhawk with his reloads. Guess he double charged
a round! The explosion peeled the top of the frame off and slung the cylinder into the bulletproof glass between us, then bounced off and went thru
the standard glass into the viewing area. I thought he had shot at me and turned aiming my pistol at him, noticed he was holding his hand that was pouring blood.

Dude I'd just be writing page after page.

Stupid people should never own guns.

Guns are not for everyone.

Not everyone should own a gun, even if they have a right to do so.



Some people will NEVER have the correct mindset to be SAFE with a gun. Just because you own a gun doesn't mean you are magically safe and you're a good guy. I have met countless stupid people that have been taught the right way over and over and they are too proud or stupid or both, to adopt a wiser mindset. People usually don't change.

Correlation doesn't imply causation.

But I'd prefer to stay away from idiots on the range (note, they are idiots, FIRST, then gun owners SECOND) than let the liberals get their foot in the door.

Perhaps it is hard to understand my perspective, unless you've had a loaded gun pointed at you many, many times. Thankfully, I no longer work at the range. Sadly, the NROTC range at the University of Texas has been demolished at replaced by a green building.

After graduating, I have not gone to public ranges, ever.

And Greenberg... he gets to have a lot of fun.... haha Good on him..

Sounds to me like your guy was not accidental but at least he didn't take anyone with him.

Yeah that's what I've been thinking about. I had four guns that me and my buddy shot without reloading the magazines. I think next time I go, I'll make sure at least I have a least one gun loaded and ready.

I went to UT as well and remember friends talking about the range on campus. I'm starting to think twice about going to ranges with idiots with guns. I remember more safety when I went to paintball when I was in middle school. Red's Range was another place a frequent when I was in Austin. Are you still in Central Texas? If so, where do you shoot now. I'm in San Marcos area.

You mean for the VIDEO. It still did happen and it just happened to be caught on digital media.

On a more serious note - I'm thankful that I have seen any real injuries, but like Blue said - I have seen more idiots point the muzzle of their shotgun/pistol/rifle at someone's face or chest at point blank range.

All it takes is to break one of the other safety rules while doing that and it will not end well. It always amazes me that this can be seen almost every trip to the range. It's just a matter of time...

I never go to Reds, it's public. If I knew you back then I'd have rescued you. If you're up North of San Marcos, let me know. We'll go shoot FsNs.

Indoor range, weekday morning (when the morons with firearms are not sweeping and playing fast trigger), all was normal and then heard a very much louder than usual noise as well as the sound of steel hitting concrete, leaned back and looked down a couple of lanes to see a shooter staggering back and looking at his pistol, his hand, and the ground around him.

Noticed the magazine parts on the ground and approached him. His 1911 was in decent shape from a quick glance, but the magazine was blown out, blown into pieces and he muttered something about being surprised by that round.

Only time indoor ranges were patronized were during off-idiot hours, typically weekday morning upon opening. Although a fun date is to hit a range on a Saturday to just admire a "jury of your peers" ...
