Anyone own the Scar clone MK22lr?

Post by EvoLee » 28 Jan 2013, 10:34

Not sure if this should be posted in the Other Rifles section or not but I was curious to see if anyone here bought the ISSC MK22 Scar clone in .22lr? I'm currently thinking of trading a used Glock 17 for one of these. I don't own a .22 yet and figured this gun looks cool and its a cheap to shoot .22.

I've seen so many mixed video reviews on youtube but have read some good blog reviews for this gun. Does anyone here have any interesting takes on this gun?

FWIW, I actually own a Scar 17s in FDE but spending almost $1 a shot does not make this a range ammo eater. Figured maybe the MK22 would at least look the part.

Again, sorry if this should be in another thread category.

I heard they had pretty bad reliability issues. It's almost entirely plastic and the few metal parts it has are prone to failing (particularly bolts that are supposed to hold the receiver together). I wanna say there's a thread on calguns or TFR outlining most of the issues it has.

For what they're going for, I'd sooner buy an M&P-22. Ergonomically it'd be a bit different than handling the SCAR, but it's a well built rifle that doesn't list "rapid spontaneous disassembly" as a feature

Contrary to popular belief, you CAN fix stupid - it's just illegal.

Plenty of reviews on the 'Net about failure to feed, failure to eject, etc. Kept us from testing one.

If you want a .22lr semi-auto rifle, stick with a Ruger 10/22!

I agree, not only are they incredibly reliable, but they are much less dangerous out of the box because they don't come with a pistol grip, telescoping stock or a (gasp) vertical grip!

I was cruising youtube and saw a video of a slide fire stock on the M&P .22. That's the direction I would go. That looked darn fun.

Thanks for the feedback. I actually put the brakes on the trade because most reviews are bad plus most of those guys said they were lucky to get $250 for the used MK22.

I've got a kel tec so I'm trying to limit my range trouble to that gun. Definitely not looking to add another gun with basic functionality issues to my collection.

Thanks to the mods for going easy on me about the wrong thread location. :D
