Ammo In Stock
Hi everyone,
Just bought my five-seven and I am loving it. The only thing that sucks is the ability to find ammo. I've tried all of my local places (New Mexico) and looked online (calebras, dirtcheap, google shopping lol). Does anyone know of anyone selling the SS197 and has it in stock?
Thanks

Re: Ammo In Stock
Everyone is out of stock. Don't expect anything new for at least 5 to 6 months from what I've been told.
You can still find some SS195 in stock here and there. I checked ammotogo yesterday and it appeared they had some SS195 but you'll pay for it.
There isn't even any on gunbroker right now.

Re: Ammo In Stock
I grabbed 4000 rounds of SS197SR a few weeks ago. Seems like you have to pounce when it is available.

Yep and it will get worse before gets better
This happened right after the current administration took office.
Everyone started panicking and hoarding ammo and reloading supplies

Re: Ammo In Stock
I have yet to shoot the SS195 I've only been able to get my hands on SS197. I've been lurking around the accessories for sale for a week now.
Good news though is that my Elite Ammunition will be here next week. Tried the Protector, protector 2 and the t6 (when it's available).
I'm still waiting for the next Cabela's sale. What is your favorite ammo for recreational shooting?

Why is SS197SR in short supply? Anyone have any facts?

Re: Ammo In Stock
The military and LE are not using SS197.
It's Election year panic, pure and simple. Don't fall into the trap. Wait until after the election, when the ammo prices will drop significantly, even if O gets re-elected.

This 195 isn't too outrageous. Might be worth it for you.

Re: Ammo In Stock
I'm picking up six boxes of SS195LF at my local dealer tomorrow for this weekend.
He tells me that he can get as much as I want. 1/2 case or full case.

No they are not, but there is only one source for brass, and if FN is filling military contracts elsewhere across the globe, that will always take priority over the commercial market.
Based on conversations I have with folks that I mingle with during my day job, this appears to be the case.

5.56 is slowly becoming vaporware as well, I had to scour to find a few cases of zombiepocalypse M855. I'm not buying any more ammo until after the election.

Re: Ammo In Stock
No problems up here either. Prices up about 10% from last year this time, but tons of all kinds of ammo, 17HMR all the way up to 50 BMG availabe.
Killed Two Stones with One Bird.
Re: Ammo In Stock
Still available here too, problem is the guys everybody buys it from are running out.....2008 is gonna happen again no doubt, it might be a little better because everybody knows it's coming and a lot of people are still stocked up from last time and/or have less $$ to burn this time around because the economy is still crappy. Of course this might be offset by the fact that people know its coming and are putting some serious coin in as investments, I know I would have loved to put a few grand into Wolf primers before Wideners ran out, probably the last <$20 primers we will ever see again, kinda how Fed 550 22lr was this time 4 years ago, it will never go back to ~$13 either, wish I would have bought more :pflyingirish04 wrote:No problems up here either. Re: Ammo In Stock
Talked with my father a few days ago, let him know now is the time to start buying loaded rounds and reloading components.
Re: Ammo In Stock
Dang it, you guys are spookin me so I ended up buying 10 boxes of SS195LF instead of 6 that I planned on picking up.
Is $25 a box a decent price?

Re: Ammo In Stock
For 195, yes. It has been higher priced than 197 for years (from what I've seen). But then they are charging over $28/box here regardless of type. Which reminds me - time for more reloading...Airdog wrote:Dang it, you guys are spookin me so I ended up buying 10 boxes of SS195LF instead of 6 that I planned on picking up.

Re: Ammo In Stock
I don't care, really...
last time everyone freaked out, they're going to do the same thing, again. Just talked to someone tonight who went and bought about 10,000 rounds of 5.56 in the election scare from Obama (the last election).
I'm just not going to shoot anything till people stop wetting their pants. Going to stink having to wait half a year to start shooting more again. Oh well. If I can find it I will, if I can't; I can't.
No point freakin out.

This is where a .22lr comes in - I shot 1000 (yes, one THOUSAND) rounds through my new 10/22 Takedown and it cost me roughly what 2 boxes of ss197 would have run.blueorison wrote:I don't care, really...

No need to skip shooting - just change calibers for a while...

Re: Ammo In Stock
I just bought my Five Seven today and I'm new to the forum. I guess I'm looking to buy about 2000 rounds of the ss195fl to get me started. Does anyone know of a place that sells a case for under $900 that actually has them in stock?
I'm pretty new to the gun scene and not really sure how dealers work on their ammo prices. Will places like CheaperThanDirt give you a discount for buying a case when they only list a box price on the site?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Absolutley the way to go. I still shoot my 57 just to remind myself of "feel"--say 50 rounds max and spend rest of time using my 22. I cannot see shooting up a storm watching dollar bills go up in flames at the front of my 57.
