I think you mean lead not led. And lead free primers don't have as long of a life span as primers with lead do. Guys on here have had ss195lf (having a lead free primer) go bad (a few rounds here and there) after sitting on the shelf for a few years. So if you plan on stocking up on ammo and never touching it for a decade, then you wouldn't want ammo with a lead free primer.

Thanks. That is sort of what I was hoping to hear. I have a pant-load of SS192 rounds and would rather they don't have a short shelf life.

Do the Trident T6 rounds have leaded primers?

All of Elite's ammo uses standard (w/lead) primers.

So, what is the approximate shelf life of ammunition with lead primers?

Stored properly 25+ years I would say.

Maybe more, maybe less.
:lmao:

vague enough?

Ospy, do not worry about LF primers. Go out and shoot our ss195 and have fun :thumb: . I doubt any of your other ammunition is even LF, so you have no need to worry at all.

Not sure about Modern Primers, but I bought some WW I era 303 british ammo that worked just fine! ss197 uses a standard primer is that correct?

Yes. 197 & 192 (if you can find it) use standard primers

I once asked if any of our members actually had climate controlled lead primers go bad. There were no responses. People tend to quote in a circular manner.

Would the lifespan on the 195 primers be noticeably extended by holding to a rigorous airtight & dry storage policy, or is the shortened lifespan a reality regardless of environmental conditions?

GONRA sez - NO.
Lead Free Primer Chemistry is lousey. Nothing you can do about it.
Doubtful (VERY doubtful) if it will ever get better.
(This topic has been beat to death elsewhere on this website.)
Bottom line is only buy lead fee primer ammo if you are forced to,
then shoot it up for practice,
do NOT put it in SHTF stocks, long term storage or
depend on it to shoot Bad Guys.

Whenever GONRA speaks, I am inclined to lock the thread because he usually is providing you with the last word, whether you might or might not realize it. :lmao:

Also, this topic HAS, as he says, been beaten to death in more than one ss195-related or LF primer-related thread. One more thing for Alex to put in his newbie super-thread. We will call upon him to consolidate!

Are you serious or just razzing him? I can't tell with your rofl emoticon. Sounds reasonable to me.

I just don't like it when GONRA posts because GONRA refers to himself in the third person. He and Gary Payton should get a room. Other than that, he usually gives good advice, as annoying as the context is. :p

Added it. Basically LF primers will last for at least a few years but due to the chemistry they WILL degrade so if you want to stockpile for 6 or 10 years, get leaded primers. If you can find supplemental information send me a message. Thanks guys.
