New York Quietly Operating An "Illegal" Gun Tip Line?

I just read this on Fox News but it was a couple of days old. Has anyone else heard about it? The ads supposedly offer $500 for "tips" on "illegal" guns. Sounds scary.

I read that a couple days ago. Isn't that how totalitarian governments start, turn neighbor against neighbor, for the sake of the "good of the state"? :ponder:

It has been in existance (quietly) for over one year. It is run by the NY State Police, is toll-free and anonymous tips are fine. You may also send a text message. If your tip results in the arrest of a person in possession of an illegal firearm, the "tipster" will receive $500.00. The number to phone is 1-855-486-7697, (1-855-GUNSNYS). Text message GUNTIP, message to CRIMES (274637).

Officials are encouraging residents to report anyone they believe to be in violation of the NY SAFE Act.

I tried calling, there was a recording about being "furloughed" and instructing me to leave a message. It also stated they will try to get back to you sometime before next year...

Hmmm.... Seems Legit!!!
