Obama To Unveil Gun Control Reforms In Near Future

WASHINGTON -- Half a year after the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), the Obama administration is set to release a series of reforms to the current gun law, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said on Thursday.

The reforms, which are being crafted by the Department of Justice, come after a series of meetings with relevant stakeholders in the Second Amendment debate. But in a nod to the difficulties of getting legislation through a Republican-run House of Representatives, only executive orders or administrative actions -- and not an actual bill -- are expected to be handed to Congress.

Similar article at USA Today (no mention of executive orders in this article, though)...

Obama aide: Gun legislation in 'near future'

Six months after the shooting in Tucson that killed six people and wounded Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., the Obama administration has yet to move on new gun control legislation.

That could change soon.

White House spokesman Jay Carney said a special task force has been "working through these complex issues, and we expect to have some more specific announcements in the near future."

Maybe if he tries to do this with EO's only, maybe...just MAYBE somebody will finally call the Executive Branch on their use of EO's and the Consitutionality of them and their application.
Never confuse 'The will of the Majority' with 'The will of God'.

This would not be smart of him making this happen before the election. It would guarantee that he loses. I hope he tries it though. The smug SOB.

If im not mistaken EOs only deal with administrative issues, and really the furthest he could go would be in banning the importation of all ammo, firearms etc, whereas he could not do anything dealing with individual right to purchase, carry, etc any kind of firearm.

Plus I believe an EO can be repealed by congress, as well as the next president.

I just don't see him doing anything BEFORE the election. I think if he gets re-elected, we will see his true colors, and they will not be pretty. JMO.

This is probably why they won't commit to a time frame. It makes absolutely no sense for him to go after this issue at this point. I would guess that the only reason it's being discussed publicly right now is to make his base happy.

Unfortunately a first term president's job is to get reelected. The real action, for better or for worse, happens in their second term.

I just pray that he does not have this chance.

:furious:

The 2nd Amendment is the sentinel of the 1st Amendment and, ultimately, the U.S. Constitution.

Well I just posted up some info from both of our ATF visits.

BATF now classifies .223, 6.5 Grendel and 6.8SPC as Pistol Round.

What pistol fires the 6.5 Grendel and 6.8SPC rounds?

And they're going to confiscate ammo? Time to head to the range

There are at least 2 AR makers the make AR pistols in all of those calibers.

Yes they are.

So we can thank all the people that thought it was a good idea to call their AR a pistol?

I can't even find a 6.5 Grendel rifle (not in stock)- I had no idea they made AR pistols in that. Kinda defeats the purpose of the round doesn't it?

I've never understood one's desire to make an AR into a 'pistol'. Shorten it all you want, it's still a flippin' rifle receiver that you've hacked into an abortion of a weapon that has no practical purpose. And now our elected officials get to do this. Thanks.

I may not understand it, but I damn sure want everyone to be able to have one if they choose.

As far as the Trident line of bullets, the BATFE is out of control. Time for me to write my congressman...again.

Trident T6 PFP rounds now illegal?

Post by Ospy » 11 Jul 2011, 11:07

I received an email from EA telling me to expect a call from the BATF to come confiscate my ammo. Even if I had any left, I still wonder if they were planning on buying the balance of ammo or just take it from me. In the email though, there were specific cartridges mentioned but not the 5.7 X 28mm round. I'm still imagining this round would be on the list though. Anybody know anything more about this? Perhaps it's been discussed in another thread and you can just post a link.
A liberal lady friend once argued that a lot of gun owners that are victims of a crime end up getting killed with their own weapons. That's absurd! If someone is going to kill me with my own gun, they're going to have to beat me to death with it, because it's going to be empty.

Frickin idiots. I am going to add to the letter from my congressman that the BATFE is discriminating against smaller ammo manufacturers by not cracking down on Barnes, Magtech, and Corbon with DPX line for manufacturing a full copper alloy bullet as well.

With the whole "Fast and Furious" debacle, the ATF has a target on its back right now, and I know my congressman is a pro-gun guy that loves cracking down on their idiocy.
