Hornady taP AMMO

Post by stg2ahn » 12 Nov 2008, 16:06

What kind of powder is in Hornady TAP ammo?
I am asking because of the advertised low flash content.
For pistol, rifle and shotgun.

I haven't a clue, but it's good stuff. I have and use several different calibers of TAP.

The case is nickel coated, supposed to make it feed easier.

All that will occur is increased pressure necessitating that the load be modified (reduced). The end-user will probably have no clue what they are doing to get flattened/pierced primers. +1 to your advice!

Flash suppressant usually necessitates that velocity suffer.

Oddly, my P226 Elite ST (sold) would NOT extract nickle-plated ammunition. I shot Speer GDHP and Ranger T through it and got 20-50% FTE's. Both are expensive, and ranger T is individually hand-inspected. It would shoot regular brass and cheap aluminum cased Blazer all day long. It torqued me off. I sold it after sending it back and having SIG polish things up. They said they shot a 50-round box of GDHP and it was G2G. Just something wierd I experienced.

*This was the result of shooting it clean, dirty, new, and after 800+ rounds had been fired. Wet, dry, whatever. Limp-wristing, vice-grip hold. Jammed more it seemed when I held it TIGHT.

Everyone puts out a lemon once in a while, it just sucks when you are the one who gets it.

Yep that must be it. I have a Sig 226 Platinum Elite and it shoots everything you feed it. I have never had FTF in over 1000 rounds in either the .40sw it came with or the .357sig I converted it to.

I just shot 20 rounds of the TAPs out of my new FNP-40 and they fed easy (as far as you can tell, for how fast it ejects and feeds a new one in). They did seem to load into the mag easier than the Magtechs and the Herters that I shot up on Sunday. I just noticed a lot of copper fragments in the gun after the 20 rounds. Took me over an hour to clean it up, but that was also after 50 rounds of Herter's brass though it also. I LOVE MY NEW FNP-40. :guns:
