SIG SAUER announces the release of a factory P220 in 10mm

Modern Service Pistols

As first reported midweek by SIGforum.com, SIG Sauer has announced that a 10mm version of their venerable P220 will be released at the SHOT Show in January.

The fascination with a 10mm P220 first started with Bruce Gray of Grayguns, Inc, who accepted a challenge that the P220 10mm conversion “couldn’t be done”. Bruce made limited conversion runs of all steel P220 .45 ACP pistols to 10mm. This was a painstaking task as it took quite a bit to get the pistol chambered in .45 ACP to run the 10mm reliably.

The P220/10 will be have both SAO and DA/SA configurations, and will be available in 4.25 and 5 inch lengths. It will be based upon their all steel P220 Elite series of pistols as it is being reported.

I am a big P220 fan... so this is very cool. Still waiting for a P226 or P229 in 5.7x28 :)

Why would anyone make a gun out of steel? Don't they know there's polymer? Either way, I like 10mm, so I can dig it. G20 for me though.

Seriously?! Not worth it at all.

The older Sigs actually work, but I still don't like the design. It's as clunky as old HKs. The new HKs have learned from the mistakes of the past. Sigs....

I'd hope not; if they did, they did a horribad job.

LOL

Older sigs are clunky; however, the 2-3 P210's I've shot weren't that clunky; just the American models. Newer sigs are also clunky with slides that are much too high.

I've shot one too many new-generation factory Sigs that have jammed (namely, the .380 for-carry models/1911 models) to look at them as dependable. The older models I've almost never/can't recall seeing a jam.

Then again S&W's carry models like the Shield, Beretta's Nano, are all unreliable, jam-friendly guns with small windows for failure.

Sig rifles are ok. They go bang, are clunky, unbalanced, and unnecessarily weighted down.

Back on track to the 10mm; They should have released a 6in barrel model. Then again, I'm glad they didn't, so I don't feel bad skipping over it. :)

OK Blue. Since you are not specifically talking about the classic P-series. We might can stay friends.

:)

An extended barrel would be easy.

We just picked a Sig P320 (the new striker-fired P250) and the big complaint I keep finding is that the barrel is too high for a striker-fired weapon. It did feel a little 'tall' in my hand but I wouldn't call it clunky. It feels real, real nice in my hands. I'll likely be buying one strictly for myself. I shot it better than I've ever shot a pistol out of the box, which could just be me becoming a better shooter, but I liked it.

We also have a P238, the .380 mini-1911. Kind of a pain in the butt.

No way, the P210's are super awesome. I've very fortunate to have shot a couple that were brought straight from Europe. The owners traveled there multiple times just to purchase the firearm. I don't know how the import laws worked etc. but they brought it back home. I have not shot the new updated P210 but I'm sure it's just as great.

The P220 S was also fun to shoot.

Yeah, too high off the hand. The newer grips are slimmer, alike the newer HK line.

I've shot 3, P238's. All jammed with brand named ammo. Also felt like it was made overseas in someone's garage from spare parts and unfinished slides.

Ya my dad has a 1911 c3 sig in 45 acp. That gun cost him a little under $1200 bucks and its one of my favorite pistols have never had issue with it whatsoever, but of course there is no comparison my Mark 2 five seven is way better haha. I would really enjoy a 10mm and i would definietly go with a sig. My buddy reloads them and they are truely the best 10mm loads i have ever shot.
