Re: S&W M&P5.7
Here is an introduction video. I haven't watched the whole thing yet. It mentioned that the price will be around the same as Ruger 57.

Re: S&W M&P5.7
Hopefully this will be a big improvement over delayed blowback pistols. Can’t wait to try one out.

Re: S&W M&P5.7
Well it is a delayed blow back, just gas operated. Truth be told gas delay is better than mechanical but costs more to make and with S&W track record quality wise the last few years I am not sure just how good this gun it. It's grip angle is shit.
I and a few others here have known about it for over a year through the US patent office.

Re: S&W M&P5.7
I picked up a S&W 5.7 recently, and had a chance to take it out to the range with some of my reloads, as well as three different factory ammo.
First impression - The gas operating system is very clever. I was afraid it would make the gun difficult to field strip, but it comes apart almost identical to most tilt-barrel locked breech pistols - very easy, no tools. The barrel is also the gas piston and the bolt, all in one, and rides inside a fixed cylinder that looks like a normal barrel, including threads for a suppressor. This cylinder does not move when the slide operates, acting much like the fixed barrel in most blow-back designs.
The magazine holds 22 rounds, and is double-stack, double-feed. The rounds push into the magazine just like loading rounds into an AR mag, except the mag spring is VERY stiff, and loading more than 10 rounds gets difficult to push in. A special mag loader comes from the factory, which helps. I never loaded more than 15 rounds into the mag for this trip to the range.
The trigger is very good for a factory gun. The sights were off quite a bit, 3 inches left @ 15 yards, bench rested. I felt like the rear sight notch was too wide, centering the front sight accurately was a bit of a problem for my old eyes. I will eventually get a Holosun 507K red dot for it, as they will direct mount without a plate, and what I have been reading is that the existing sights will co-witness. I felt like the recoil was approximately equal to a 22 magnum, but this is very subjective. It is MUCH softer shooting than 9mm.
The gun is very thin, enough so that I started thinking about this possibly being a good concealed carry gun. The grip is longer but much less width than most guns. It felt different in my hand, obviously, but I liked the grip and it pointed well for me. The gun performed reliably, with no malfunctions whatsoever.
Chrono data:
Factory ammo:
Federal American Eagle 40 factory: 1622 fps average, 7.9 SD, 21 extreme spread.
Speer Golt Dot: 1704 fps average, 25.1 SD, 72 extreme spread.
FN SS197SR: 1735 fps average, 24.8 SD, 65.5 extreme spread.
Handloads:
Hornady 40 Vmax, 6.0gn Power Pistol: 2057 fps average, 12.6 SD, 48 extreme spread.
Hornady 35 Vmax, 6.5gn Power Pistol: 2200 fps average, 11.3 SD, 38 extreme spread.
Hornady 40 Vmax, 5.4gn BE86: 1878 fps average, 14.9 SD, 40 extreme spread.
The primers with the two Power Pistol loads showed a very slight cratering, consistently with all rounds fired. These loads had been worked up using my AR57 and did not have cratering, but I think I will back off these loads slightly in the future. I had one primer blow out, but I believe the primer pocket may have been loose to begin with. The BE86 load worked well, with no signs of pressure. The shoulders on all rounds were pushed out just slightly, but not as much as the ones shot from my AR57.
Velocity comparison between the S&W pistol and 16" AR57.
Load S&W AR57
Hornady 40V, PP 6.0gn 2057 2503
Hornady 35V, PP 6.5gn 2200 2740
Hornady 40V, BE86 5.4gn 1878 2314
Federal AE 40 Factory 1622 2035
Overall, I was happy with my purchase. I don't think this will end up being a safe queen.

Nice work
Re: S&W M&P5.7
I also have one of these and finally got a chance to shoot it this weekend (suppressed). I think the gun is fine but the trigger is garbage. Hard to tell how accurate the gun is with a 14" take-up and trigger pull somewhere between 3 and 35 lbs!! So inconsistant. Anyone else notice this? Oh yea, and it also throws your brass into the next time zone. We were about 12 feet from an 8' tall three sided shed with metal roof. They all landed on the far side of that roof!!! Could not even see them leaving the gun, just heard them on the roof. Crazy.

Re: S&W M&P5.7
Well no matter what pistol you fire 5.7 from it puts brass in low earth orbit, much CZ's do.
If you had a FsN I would recommend My/EA's HD recoil spring.
Less shoulder movement, up tick in velocity and the brass only flies 8 feet.

Re: S&W M&P5.7
Unfortunately as of right now none of the standard or aftermarket M&P recoil springs fit the M&P 57.
