If you had to choose...ss197 versus ss198 for hogs

I have been thinking about sighting in with 1 load for range work as well as hogs. Commercially, the 197 and 198 cost in the ballpark of each other. In the ammo section, the ss197 is slower and fragments and is heavier. The ss198 is faster and tumbles but is lighter. Shooting at hogs less than 50 yards, do you go for head shots or chest shots and with which ammo? I am leaning towards the ss198 for everything ( hogs, self defense, range). I just wonder if the heavier ss197 would be better.? Any hog hunters out there?
Thanks

I tend to agree with you. I would lean toward the 198. However, I don't know where you buy your ammo, but I get 197 from PSA for $17.99 a box, and $31.99 is the cheapest I have ever found 198.

We don't have hogs, but I hear they're stupid tough. I don't know that I'd go after one with a 5.7 after what I've seen on some youtube videos.

There is at least one thread on here about hunting hogs with the FsN using the the 197. He went for head shots right behind the ear IIRC. Here's one:

Thanks guys. I have seen ss198 on gunbroker for $599/1000 at times. I guess I am thinking more like $0.35- $0.75 per round versus using other ammo that may have better stats but is more like $1.75-2.00 per round. I don't mind using either round, but was wondering on hogs which would be better. Just going to have to see!

198 would be better for hogs by a long shot.

If you use the S4M, same bullet, As tough as they are I would expect the jacket to shed and the Aluminum rod core to continue on tumbling and ripping stuff up. I see this with S4M and sometimes with the 198.

Plus when pushed the 27gr bullet can expand like a conventional hollow point.

Some of them where shot through a lvl2 vest wrapped around a bone in pork should, some lvl2 panel on top of those poncy Cabela's yearly hard bound catalogs they send out, hell at least 2 where shot through steel plates which is why they are now just a the core, after exiting that they fell into a sand trap covered in pork goo. So some of the sand stuck to them. Never bothered to clean them off.
