FN9 Long Slide - Slide Release

Post by dondavis3 » 07 May 2016, 11:39

Is anyone having trouble hitting your slide release button on your FN9 Long Slide?

my Slide Release button is surrounded by polymer on the front & rear.

in shooting in competition with the gun I sometimes miss the button itself and hang up on the front or rear polymer frame.

I need to to be very exact in hitting the button.

ive thought about filing down the polymer front & rear to better expose the slide release

has anyone done that - did it work

any other suggestions?

thanks for your help.

If you're running competitions with a gun don't be afraid to take a dremel to it and modify it as you need. If you're worried about resale don't. In my early days of competing with glocks I would take 2 pairs of pliers and bend my slide release out where it was easy to hit. Other then that practice practice practice. Not many aftermarket options for these.

Don;

2 main things;

1. Some clubs are really stringent on external modifications (as outlined by the rulebooks) on pistols, especially if you're shooting USPSA Production (you shouldn't be shooting IDPA, it makes you a worse shooter). Others don't care. Most don't.

2. The slide release is a slightly faster way of activating your slide back into battery, but if you have really strong magazine springs/the rounds are stacked very tightly in your mag, the upward pressure of the round on the feedlips can out-value the return force of the slide, causing it to hang up. This will PROBABLY not happen, and usually only occurs if your spring is too light (factory spring will not do this) or your rounds in your mag and mag design causes so much upward pressure that it is ridiculous.

An alternative is to rack/catapult your slide back into battery, which imparts more momentum to the slide, negating this potential issue.

All in all, just dremel the thing. :)

The shooter will always matter more than the gear ever will.
Stop relying on others to do the work for you.

My club is not that strick- I'm just going to drimmel it.

Thanks for the spring / mag info - but mine closes easily enough.

It's just "hiding" in that "horseshoe" of plastic & hard to hit easily.

Thanks for the help
