Welcome to the forum!

If you feel that you're boring, trap shooting, just try 5stand or sporting clays. I find the latter to be my favourite style with great exercise benefits. Of course, if you drive a golf cart around, then there isn't any.

Even in the 115 degree Texas heat, walking around for a couple miles for a few rounds of sporting clays is quite fun. Just don't forget to hydrate.

Post by Yellowshaker » 04 Jun 2012, 19:58

I have been thinking about buying a 5.7 for a long time now, and I am finally in the market for one. I was wondering what price I should pay for one of these guns.
My other question is in regard to ammunition. What are you guys using and which is best for what? I mean, what would you use for target shooting, personal protection and so on? Thanks for any insight everyone. I appreciate it.
Regards,
Joe

Welcome to the forum Joe.
A good price for FsN is ~$1000, the forum sponsors above will usually be a pretty good bet if you can't find them locally.

Ammunition - that is LONG topic with multiple threads on it. There is way too much information to repost into a single thread. We encourage you to use the "tactical" search function (yes it was so named as a joke but it does work). Or just browse around the ammunition subforums.
Short version: Sight for what you carry (recommend Elite Ammunition for carry ammo) & use the cheaper stuff to work on your grouping.

I found a slightly used 5.7 ODG on Gunbroker from a local guy for $900. If your patient and watch the adds you might find a deal. Can't go wrong with the forum sponsors though and you'll have a warrantee.

Howdy folks,

After searching for a while, and learning from you fine people, I have finally purchased a new 5.7 at a decent price. Can't wait to fire it up. With a HK USP 9 and a Kimber .45 as companions, I should have the bases covered.

Great forum, looking forward to participating..

Hello! New member with new FsN

Post by taseal » 19 Jun 2012, 05:17

Alright... There goes all my fun toy fund. I got 2 things I've been wanting for a while. I was thinking of a Desert eagle or a FsN for a while now. I decided on the FsN for now. and I found a great deal on the Mk23, so I jumped on it as well. I was gonna just get the eagle and the FsN, but ended up with FsN and HK Mk23. Pretty happy about my decision.

the 5.7 is new to me, and I heard it's lots of fun to shoot at the range... I will find out. Not sure on the ballistic capabilities. We did see what it did at ft hood though... I decided against the .50AE for now because of the MK23 that I jumped on. I prefer that for now. still a huge gun, but more practical, I will get the deagle eventually.

I thought of getting the ed brown SF carry, but I decided that getting 2 unique guns instead of 1 very premium was way to go for me.

I got some SS198LF ammo for it. it was 28 bucks at my LEO/MIL only store. I see on the internet it sells for 35 to 50 bucks a box. CRAZY! I guess I'm one of the lucky few. I do want to get the EA T6 or ProtecTOR I/II though. I think they are better rounds. but for now the SS198LF is the best out for factory ammo I think.

Beautiful. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and picture.

I think you are dead on. The .50AE is a fun and heavy hitter. However, if you are comparing the Mk23 for practicality, it will win.

The T6 and Pro series from EA are potent and enabling. Best wishes on procurement. The pre-ban is going for a pretty penny, and the post-ban is well...

:) There are some of us that treasure what EA has done and are holding on to our SD ammo!

Thanks!

It looks like EA takes forever to ship out ammo though (4-5 weeks). I'm still waiting on them to respond to me about leo/mil discount pricing, hopefully they'll get back soon.

I was thinking maybe I'll just reload my own 5.7x28 since I have a reloading station. shouldn't be hard to make 100 rounds. Just need brass and gotta put in numbers to see what powder.

Hi, I am new to the FiveSevenForum. I am currently a Federal LE Officer working with the DHS. I am a retired U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant (22 Years) who served with Air Force Security Police during the Cold War (SAC) era. I just recently purchased the FNH Five Seven and I have been impressed with the weight, low recoil, and accuracy. Glad to be here and looking forward to contributing to the forum.

Hello everyone.

Like most have stated, I'm a vet as well. 8 years in the Army. I have been researching the FiveseveN for a few months now and most of my searches have brought me back to this forum time and time again, so I finally joined. I don't have a FN just yet, but I plan to pick up one in the future, as well as a PS90 and a SCAR 16s. Until then, I will just lurk the forums for more info on these weapons.

I also added a FiveseveN friendly range to the list. Next time I drop by, I will see if it's PS90 friendly as well.

Just wanted to introduce myself. Live in Texas, have had a SCAR for a while and a 57 pistol. Just recently SBR'd the SCAR and picked up a YHM SS suppressor for it and my other .22 caliber stuff. Will post a pic when I get a chance. Only changes so far are to remove the factory sights from the scar, didnt like them and put on some Magpul flipups front and rear that cowitness with an Eotech XPS2-Z red dot. Once I started shooting the scar I havent really shot my AR's and have sold all but one.

I had to have a member of the A&M team explain to me what Tea Sippers were. Apparently Longhorns are just too chill and spend their time doing more practical things like partying than actually sitting around in a boring room drinking beer with a bunch of the same sex.

And making up names to call students from other colleges.

I've never heard of any made-up names for Owls or Aggies.

Haters gonna hate.

Hello
I just purchased my new 5.7 yesterday. I've been considering the purchase for sometime now. I've done a lot research on the net for quite a while, got a lot of good information right here as a lurker. ( I'm an official member of the forum now.) The ammo drought has been really given me second thoughts.
Well, I finnaly pulled the trigger.
I got a great deal at Gander Mountain. $100 dollars off at $1099. Plus, I got 3 boxes of blue tip, on sale for $24.99. Bought it all.
Hooty hoot! Heading to the range.
God is good, bless His name!

Whats up guys, My name is Adam and I'm in Jax. FL. I've had a few FN's over the past few years, mostly pistols and a PS90. Had a SCAR 16 for a while but that had to go by the wayside. I shoot some of the local competitions and work at a local gun shop. My buddy Brett down in Tampa has been on me to join some of these online forums so here I am. Good to be here and I'll talk to you guys later

New Guy - My 5.7 (Pics)

Post by scubasteve » 23 Jul 2012, 18:58

Evening all,

First post. Quick intro about me, I'm in the Coast Guard, graduated the Academy in 2011 - originally from Odenton, MD. Been shooting consistently for a few years now, wanted to add another secondary to my lineup, so I chose a Five Seven.

Couldn't be happier with the purchase. I got it used for $1200 with the Trijicon RM02. My FFL wanted $1145 new, but couldn't find any in stock so I got it used from a reputable sporting goods store in Maine. Kittery Trading Post. I was hesitant, as this was my first used gun purchase, but upon inspection of the firearm I found no cosmetic defects (scratches on the sight, slide, frame, rub marks, etc.) and cleanliness of the gun inside was very good. I noticed that when I picked it up, either the previous owner put the barcode back on the slide or never took it off. The box the RMR came in still had the trijicon sticker in it. All these things, along with the opinion of several workers from KTP, led me to believe that this gun didn't see any serious use.

Took it to the range the next day, she performed flawlessly with SS197SR, put about 150 rnds through with no failures. RMR was already sighted in, was consistently hitting 4x6 shoot-n-see's at 60'. Then I transitioned to my p220, woof. Entirely different beast and a lot more recoil haha. All in all though I'd have to say that this is my new favorite handgun to shoot, even after 1 trip to the range. I like it so much in fact I'm using it for a course this weekend instead of my p220 (why carry 30 rnds of 45 when you can carry double the capacity in 5.7!!) In conclusion, I'm very happy with this gun and happy to be a part of the boards, hopefully I can share and contribute my info/experience. Thanks ~ steve.

welcome! (again) scubasteve!

I don't really care that your pistol isn't on safe, or if you have on in the chamber, or whatever, and most of us don't, either! :)

Sounds like you got a great deal!

Welcome Chris. Im a relatively new member myself and the guys here are very informative and helpful. I think you will be quite happy with the information shared here and hope you stick around to share what you have learned as well.

Since you are a Salty Navy dude, I just finished reading Lone Survivor today. Man, I rarely get teary eyed, but that book really got me a few times.

Welcome!

Welcome, Chad, Force, and Chris! :)

If ya'll have any noobish questions or those that you don't want to voice on the open forum, feel free to PM me and I'll do my best to help.

Myself and others have created an FsN FAQ in the WIKI for all members, and the search works pretty well, too!

Thanks! I'm not new to forums so I can take some verbal beatings if I have to. The FSN FAQ was the first thread I viewed actually.

Good morning! (It's 6 am here...)

I'm a LEO getting ready to retire. Used to be an avid shooter, but having to train and qualify over the years, and carry under departmental restrictions, made shooting 'work' and I drifted away from the hobby. With retirement pending, I've rediscovered my interest and - to my DW's dismay - purchased several new firearms for different occasions.

After a lot of research, I ordered a FiveSeveN yesterday. It gets here when it get's here, but I am feeling impatient.

Just wanted a shout out to everyone here.

I'm Nic. I'm 25 years old and live in Charlotte, NC. I was never a stranger to guns growing up, but I only started collecting myself about 6 months ago. While I have shot my fair share of rifles, I am very new to handguns. So here I am, eager to learn.

I love old and/or unique guns. The FsN fits perfectly into the unique category. After watching countless videos and reading everything I could find, I finally got to rent one at a nearby range. I fell in love instantly. After a bit of saving, I was ready to get one. The only problem was ammo. I couldn't bring myself to by such a wonderful gun just to look at it. After a few weeks, I was finally able to sneak in and buy some online before the site sold out. The rest is history.

I'll be honest, my first exposure to the FsN and P90 were video games. Splinter Cell told me the name Five-seveN and 007 Goldeneye showed me the P90. Of course, this was only my starting point. Only through research did I learn what a fascinating cartridge the 5.7 really is.

For those interested, the rest of my meager collection consists of:
1942 Tula 91/30 Mosin-Nagant
SPF Webley MkIV Revolver
16" Rossi R92 Lever Action in .38/.357

All I wanted was a Webley MkIV. My friend called to tell me a LGS had one. I was very pleased to learn it was an SPF.

Hello everyone, just recently joined and am really liking this forum so far. I have a ps90 and was looking for ammo when I discovered Elite Ammo. Can't wait to place an order with them soon. Would really appreciate any recommendations for ammo from them. Can't wait to read more threads and interact with everyone. Hope to post pics of my setup soon.

Hey guys, I'm Jon from Ohio. I just bought a used FiveseveN for $800 at a local shop about a week ago. I've shot it twice since then, and I must say I'm impressed. It is however a GIGANTIC difference from my .40cal, full sized, steel Baby Desert Eagle. I'm mainly just having trouble adjusting to harder trigger pull on the FsN. I do have other concerns... ESPECIALLY ammo being $30+ per 50 round box in my area. Regardless I am very satisfied and glad to be here.

Welcome, Jon!

Elite Ammunition @ Eliteammunition.com is a sponsor here, and they provide an Accurizing package that includes a trigger job that is out of this freakin world. There is a waitlist, as with all highly-demanded gunsmithing services.

Buy your ammunition online. After the election and things die down, you should be able to get it at significantly less than $30 a box, online. There was 0 problem getting ammunition that I can recall, before the buying craze started up again 4 years later, and now everyone seems to think ammunition has always been vaporware.

Check out EA for SD rounds, also. There are many reviews on their site and 3rd party videos online, including materials and exterior-ballistic testing. :thumb:

Are there any places that you would recommend other than EA?

Yeah, I found that lurking before signing up. I've absolutely considered it, it definitely interests me but I am just not ready to commit.

For range ammunition; I would recommend A&A & Tanners. They both have stellar sales records from members on this forum and off the forum. Charles is his name, at A&A. He will do right by you.

For SD ammunition; I can't recommend any other source other than EA. Not even your own reloads. This is because the cartridge is... to put it mildly, unique, and the variables when compared to straight-walled pistol cartridges are increasingly uncomfortable when you wish to push your SD loads to the max, if you are a novice reloader to the 5.7x28mm caliber. I didn't phrase that in the best way, grammatically, but had to include other disclaimers to avoid getting into worthless arguments.

I have also tested (chronographing velocity, and exterior ballistics) other ammunition from other licensed 5.7x28mm ammunition manufacturers. Actually, pretty much everyone. :)

Salutations all...
Like another newb a few posts up, I was used to shooting as a "work chore" and with the range duties that came along with it, became disinterested. Well the wife when I came home last said due to my current work situation she wanted a pistol, I bought her an XD in 9mm. Took her to the range a couple times to give the basics and remembered that I actually LIKE to shoot. I saw the PS90 and the FiveSeveN in the gun store when we went back to pick up her piece and "fingered" them, became enamored and decided I was going to get both when funds permitted. Well that time is growing nigh so I started the research process and here I be..Thanks for an informative site!

Hello everyone,

I am making my way from Manassas, VA and looking forward to meeting fellow members on here. I recently picked up an AR57 and have full intentions of posting some footage. As of right now I have an AR57 upper from 57 Center on a Spikes Tactical Lower with an SBS Slide Fire Stock. I have already spent about 3 hours of reading on this forum and can't get enough! I hope I can add some info through testing with my AR57 like fellow members with their Five-Seven's on Body Armor. I guess thats all for now.

Welcome! :) If you have any questions, and the TACTICAL search doesn't come up with anything, Google works great (not being silly, it really does) and there is a lot of good info on the Forum Wiki! There is even a FsN FAQ list... :)

If you can't find what you're looking for, shoot me a PM and I'll do my best to help you!

Hello from Kentucky. I grew up in Virginia and then spent 21 years in the Army as a Cavalry Scout. I retired from military service in 2007 out of FT Campbell, KY and decided to stay in the area. The first time I saw a FsN was on an episode of "Top Shot". I finally purchased one last week. I have been shooting and reloading for several calibers (.223/5.56, .308, .50Beowulf, .44mag, .45acp, and .50AE) I am looking to learn more about my new pistol and possibly start reloading for it. So far this forum looks like an excellent resource.

New guy here from NE Ohio. Received my FDE FiveseveN a couple of weeks ago, picked it up second hand, and was able to shoot it last week. Very impressive muzzle blast. I've been looking for one for a while and this one already had the EA accurizing done on it. Very nice gun. Now I just need to find a bunch of ammo for it. Just signed up for the EA buyers club but missed out on the T6 :( Hopefully next round.
Looks like a pretty nice forum here. Lots of good info and support here.

Thanks and howdy

Welcome from Texas, Rockslope!!!

You do any climbing? Bouldering?

Wow, that's freakin rare/awesome that you found one that was already Accurized. Accurizing, like pretty much all of EA's top rounds, are always backordered.

Can't blame them, though. The quality that you get is always top-notch. You are very fortunate and one of the few who has one, compared to the number of FsN's, out there. :)

New to this forum (first FN product)

Post by David23 » 25 Sep 2012, 22:39

Whats up guys i am new to this forum but not really to FN products.
I have been shooting the FN five seven primarily since i was 18 at my local shooting range they have a rental wall and i have shot many guns there. the fn five seven is by far my favorite hand gun out of a lot of other hand guns out there. My GF purchased the FN five seven for my 21st birthday which i have to say i am a lucky to have a gf that would do that. shooting is deff. one of my top hobbies its very relaxing.

Other FN products i have shot
FN P90
FN-Scar

Other guns i own
Smith and Wesson AR-15
Remington 700 Rifle chambered in 270 Winchester
Benelli Super Nova tactical shotgun.

i have read a lot on this forum as well and learned a lot about the FN Five seven.

Thanks everyone

Hi Blue and thanks for the welcome. It is pretty awesome that it has already been accurized. It's a great pistol :thumb:

I'm a geologist by trade and I do some spelunking now and again, generally in W. Va. Haven't been in a long while, though, ever since White Nose Syndrome (WNS) was detected in the area I go. Pretty much every cave is under quarantine now but there are many people who don't know or care and help spread it from cave to cave :( It's spreading pretty fast now. It was in the North East and Appalachians but it is moving west now :wall:

Ah crap. We have a lot of caves in Austin, and I've been hearing about this. I cave a few times a month and this has gotten me down. Better get the most of it before they shut them all down. There are caves that have very fragile ecosystems that are restricted. Hopefully those live.

Ok, well, the rule for newbies is that you have to post pics and a range report! :)

Greetings and salutations to all
I just pick up a new Five seven today, just got it home and got it clean now I have to wait till tomorrow or early next week to go to the range. I had to get the gun from one store and go across town to get some ammo, all they had was the American eagle will have to get with EA soon to try their goods.

A little about myself, I am a aircraft mechanic that works as a government contractor for a large company. The aircraft I support is like the 5.7 X 28 round misunderstood, the V22 osprey.

This is only my third pistol I have owned, my others are a Sig Pro .40, and a LCR .357. I found this gun by watching Top Shot, after finding out it use the same round as the P90 (which I plan on my next purchase well the PS90)

I spent 8 years in the Marines, as a Ch46 Crew Chief/ aerial gunner. I was in during the first OEF and got out shortly after, due to the fact I like to eat but do not like to run.

I live in Eastern North Carolina, originally from the state of Utah.

Welcome to the forum Ditch. I'm always happy to see another Devil Dog on the board. Sigs are solid but I think you'll really love the FiveseveN. I have yet to let somebody shoot it and not see a smile on their face. I've got a friend that wanted to be air crew; he ended up as a UAV operator

Hello from sunny Las Vegas, Nevada. I joined the forum today but have been reading your posts and learning everything I could on 5.7's. It's amazing how I fell in love with this round.

Anyway, I wanted to introduce myself and say thanks for your knowledge you so freely bestow on the beginners. Great stuff! My name is John Carlino. Born in Brooklyn NY, I've been shooting as long as I have been walking. That's over 57 years. The 5.7 came new to me a couple of months ago when I walked into a new gun store by my home. I bought the pistol first, then I bought an AR57 and now I cannot get enough.

I've been in the heavy equipment business almost 40 years. Sales mostly, coming to the end of it soon, if this economy would give me one more run. November is the most important election in our lifetime. Please get out and vote. Make the other guys sweat that their prople stayed home.

I intend to reload the 5.7 cartridge. I'm still reading, watching videos, experimenting with gear. Not ready yet, but soon, maybe next year. Thanks again for being here. I want to contribute any way I can.

Greetings to all.

This is my first post having joined the forum yesterday after purchasing my FNX-40. I hope to learn from members who own and have experience with this fine pistol.

Although I have handled and shot firearms for many years, this is the first FN product I have owned. I am impressed with its visual beauty, design ergonomics and well thought-out features.

I especially like the tactile feel of the FNX-40 in my hands. The weight distribution with a loaded magazine appears to be balanced and foretells of a smooth slide action.

Based upon my research, I expect this fine pistol to be reliable and accurate. I look forward to many years of good service from it.

New 5.7 Guy

Post by Weshowe » 25 Nov 2012, 21:24

Gents,

Just joined the Forum while waiting for my new PS90 to arrive and have been searching for information, load data, recommendations, and anything I can gleen in the way of information that may help a new owner get the most from the platform.

Found ammo today at the local Outdoor Sports. It's spendy, but they have at least 3-4 thousand rounds available. I picked up 250 rounds until I could find a better/cheaper source...if that's possible.

I'm looking for a sight adjustment tool, brass catcher, and sling for it. Does anyone have a "one stop shop" for all this stuff or will I need to find it and get it piecemeal?

Any recommendations or advice you have would be appreciated.

Wes
The new guy...

Welcome to the forum Wes & congrats on your purchase.

The sight adjustment tool for the PS90 is rather expensive ($65 IIRC) but all you really need is a 3mm hex wrench. You can manage the outer ring by hand, screwdriver, or a coin after the hex is loose.

I rigged a sling for mine - a cheapie from Cabela's but it worked. I'm not sure where to get a brass catcher anymore, if mine breaks, I'd probably just make a new one of those too  But the place I bought mine is out of business.

Whats up fellers....

Been lurkin for a long time and finally decided to join. I have had my five seven for a few years and really enjoy shooting it, as does everyone else.

A little on me. I am a marble mason by trade, husband and father of 2, one girl and one boy (boy born Nov. 23 2012). I am a when I get a chance shooter which with 2 little ones and being busy at work it is not near as often as I would like.

Some of the guns Colt King cobra, RRA AR-15, FsN, Taurus .38 special, Beretta Tomcat a couple .22 rifles and a 28 gauge wing master.

Well know that that is out of the way I have a few questions for the knowledge pool 1) Why do my cmmg mag extensions hang up when fully loaded 2)I would like a silencer as I want to be a ninja assassin where can I get one...... just funnin :cya:

here is my beauty

Hello all,
Just stopping by to say hello and see what info is available out there. Last Saturday I put a deposit down on an FN-57 Black after shooting one at the range. I also plan on doing an AR-57 as well.

I haven't really decided what I'm doing just yet. I'm new to the whole AR world. Everything I own is either a pistol or has a wood stock. The "Matel" look of ARs will take some getting use to for me. No offense intended. Since, as I understand it, I need an AR-57 upper that mates to an AR-15 lower, I'm thinking I want to do the AR-57 as an SBR and suppressed. I understand that will cost me an extra $400 in stamps. I'm considering the 6" barrel if there is a suppressor that will fit inside the 1.25" opening. Does anyone have the 6" barrel on the AR platform? I'd like to see a picture of one. If possible, mated with a suppressor.

Since I'll have half of an AR-15, I might as well get a 5.56 upper as well. I'm thinking either a 16" or even a 20" barrel on it and make it a distance shooter. I'm not worried about optics, lights, etc. just yet. Order of priorities are FN-57, AR-57, then AR-15 upper. I'll have the money for the first two late this week or early next week. I really REALLY don't like the idea of sitting around and waiting for back ground checks.

Ok, without further ado, let the flaming begin. Just remember to use little words so I'll understand. It's all new jargon to me. So far I've got "can" = suppressor.

Any class 3 dealer should be able to order you one - provided you've gone through the hoops & paperwork.
See this thread for some ideas as to which to get: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=8215" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

BB, there are a lot of threads here about the AR57 platform. I don't know which threads contain the pictures but I think there are a few that show what you are looking for. Unfortunately, there are too many threads for me to search through to find the right one. I'm not an AR57 guy so I don't know those threads very well.

I encourage you both to use the search function (tips/tricks linked in my sig line) and see if that helps you. Please let us know if you have more questions.

Welcome MOshootin, Brewerbob!

No flaming! We are a friendly forum full of people who go out and test stuff for ourselves, instead of asking the interwebs for answers. But there is that, too. We don't have a lot of "mall ninjas" (one new term for you, Brewerbob!). Mall ninjas are people who stack kit on their platforms to look cool, while lacking the skill to operate either.

Don't use aftermarket magazines, if you can help it. Do it right the first time/buy once, cry once. The mfg. of the platforms test their magazines a lot more than these aftermarket companies, and build theirs (most of the time) to a higher quality.

Brewerbob; I hear you on the plastic-yness. I like wooden stocks, but prefer plastic due to the lighter weight and more robust nature.

Check out the search and the forum wiki for FAQ :)

Don't let Blue fool you - we do flame on occasion  Using the word 'clips' instead of 'mags' is a good example

Thanx for the replies. I went thru the SBR thread hoping to find what I was looking for. Did a search too for 6 inch barrel and the search came back with every thrread that contained 6, barrel, OR inch in it. Needless to say that was a worthless search. I'll play around more to see if I can't figure out how to search using the AND logic.

Not looking to become a mall ninja. I'm more likely to buy something that I won't be able to use (fitment wise) but everything I buy I intend to use. I'm not in this to make wall art.

Welcome to the forum!

I would recommend going with 57center.com's 12" barrel as opposed to the 6" because of the way the rails are set up. The inside diameter of the rails is <1.5" which really limits the number of suppressors that can be used because the cans are typically 1.5" or more in diameter. If you are going with a dedicated can for the AR57 then no problem using the dedicated Gemtech, but, if you have multiple calibers then you may want to share the suppressor with a 5.56 AR for example.

Check out this thread to see the one that I built:

viewtopic.php?f=17&t=10776" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

By doing this, I can switch the suppressor between my AR57 and my AR15. For the budget conscious (and really, who isn't these days?), that just saved me a $200 tax stamp that I would have had to spend for a second can!

Are you the guy with the youtube video doing the grouping? It was either you or someone else stole the cylon marking.

Anywho, I haven't given it much thought. I dunno if I'd use the suppressor on the AR15 barrel. I think I'd rather build it to be a 300+ yard shooter and just leave it off altogether.

I almost found a picture. I would prefer one that includes a lower but this isn't too bad. Image

Never mind, there's the video that I watched in your post. D'uh.

Thought of another question tho. Will the Gemtech shown also work with the FN57? I checked the Gemtech website and they only list a suppressor for the FN57 and not the AR57. I'm guessing they are one and the same?
