The Weather
Anyone from around where I live can vouch that the temperature here is basically 70 one day, then damn near snowing the next
This creates a very weird climate for me, as I prefer a nice cool 65degrees with a nice bright sun.
The apartment complex I live in is nice, except for the fact that unless its 60degrees or warmer outside, my AC wont work. The people who live below me must be from the Sahara desert, as its roasting in my apt, around 80 degrees. I've complained all I can to my landlord and he wont even bother to fix the damn garbage disposal that has been broke since I moved in.
I'd just open a window, one of two in my tiny apt, but I live next to a Speedway that never closes and is within 2 blocks from a college campus so its always busy and loud.
Sorry, but I think I just needed a place to vent, its 4am and I can't sleep because I'm literally on fire. :wall:

Re: The Weather
Damn. 80 degrees inside is sucky.
If the heating is a central plant supplying the apts, their WWSD or warm weather reset may be misadjusted, or not functioning at all.
Any 'siders' been around there? Those bass turds are always cutting sensor wires....
What kind of heating do you have? This time of year hydronic systems with stuck-open zone valves cause a lot of problems. If that's the issue and you're not comfortable servicing the valve, there should be isolation valves at each end of the pipe run. (just remember to reopen them next fall )
If it's just plain heat rising from below and passive solar, I'd throw in a window rattler or a PAC. http://www.consumersearch.com/portable- ... rs/reviews" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
On the disposal....just asking....did you check for free movement of the grinder and the bottom of the unit for a little red reset button?

Re: The Weather
Each apt in my complex has its own central heat and cooling unit in a giant closet, located in the living room.
I can tell when its working or not because I can actually hear the difference when the compressor is running.
I've talked to a couple people I've met since I've lived here and they said its always been like that and they couldn't ever get the landlords to do anything about it.
I just have a problem when I cant wear my outside clothes inside and vice versa.
Hopefully this snow then sun stuff will stop soon.
I'm leaving to go to Panama Fl Saturday so hopefully when I return this weather will figure out a pattern.
And as for the disposal, never really messed with it, never even really used it. I grew up in a house w/o one and well, you spend 21 years without one and you kinda forget you have it. I just accidently flipped the switch one day and nothing happened

Again today inshorts and flipflops. Looks silly with a cleric collar though/ Just kidding although I once had an Easter Sunrise service dressed that way in Atlantic City long ago. For the 1100 formal service I had sand down my pants and kneeling made me almost speak in tongues...

Yesterday it was 90º & sunny. Today, it didn't break 50º & rainy PLUS it's supposed to snow in the surrounding hills tonight/tomorrow night.

Rained cats and dogs this morning, but now it is quite nice out with about 30% cloud cover.

Re: The Weather
Was supposed to be sunny today so I was outside taking measurements for a project I need to get done while school is out. W/in about a 5 minute period it clouded up & cut loose for about another 5 minutes then it all went away for a few hours (it's back now though).
It started as couple of small drops so I tried to finish before I put everything away - couple of small drops turned into many large drops in a hurry & I got drenched along with my notes (had to cover/close things with that kind of rain). After it quit, I had to redo the measurements because I couldn't read them. :wall:
Anyone know a good place for that water proof paper notepad stuff? I was looking at RiteInTheRain, which are typically the cheapest, but even for smallest size it is still ~$4/pad. I was mulling over getting a couple of pads anyway for shooting info.
On that note - if I can't get this engineering degree for some reason, I'm going to be a weatherman. They are wrong 75% of the time & still get paid. I can do that well with a dartboard.

Today called for isolated T-Storms but I'll be damned if I didn't ride through two of the things on the bike within 5 miles of each other! Good thing those backroads had plenty of tree cover, didn't get too wet and the asphalt stayed dry, too.

Re: The Weather
I don't get it...
Yesterday morning when I looked at the predicted highs & lows for the day it was 35F & 22F respectively. But when I looked at current temp at the same time, it was 2F.
It was 3PM before it warmed up to their predicted low.
How do these people stay employed? They obviously have no clue

Global warming is at it again - snow in Egypt for the first time over 100yrs. If things get any warmer, the people in the middle east may freeze to death.

Re: The Weather
It was 40 frakking degrees here in FL when I walked my dog this morning. Forty! Whenever it gets cold, she extends the walk for as long as she can so that she can act all retarded in the cooler temps.
It sucks because I refuse to wear a jacket because I'm in Florida dammit.

Re: The Weather
Seriously - I was kidding. Well sort of. While it started out today at around 67 when I walked my dog, this "polar vortex" will come down here too. I know it doesn't compare to what some of you are experiencing, the forecast for later today and tomorrow is in the teens with wind chills in Jacksonville as low as 5.
I may have to finally turn the heat on and wear long pants. Brrrrr...

Hmm, dog walk at 7am and it's 27°. As my ears are getting legitimately cold for the first time in a long time, it occurs to me that:
It's a good thing there was no precipitation because that would lead to ice on the roads. Ice on the roads in Jacksonville would be a "does-not-compute" which would lead to: human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

Every year I resist the long pants as long as I can. I hate the heat and LOVE the cold. Here in TX, folks are getting into that 'does not compute" mode. Should be back to 70 Friday. I'm already hearing the 'see, there is no global warming' banter.

Yeah, the "Global Warming" banter. I don't see how science has become a political issue - just another example of people blindly following their party of choice IMHO.Mister Freeze wrote:jgreenberg01 wrote:Seriously - I was kidding. But the whole saying that global warming is BS when it gets cold is silly. Don't people understand the difference between weather and climate? Didn't anyone pay attention in science class?
Claiming that global warming is real during a hot day, or conversely claiming that global warming is not real when it gets cold (or when ice breakers get stuck) is showing ignorance. Sorry but that is the reality.
