Name that bullet!

Post by fd57 » 04 Feb 2013, 19:36

Given all the posts in the past month about pricing, price gouging, buying, selling, politics ... anyone want to play name that bullet?

NOTE: IF YOU READ THE OTHER FORUM MAYBE JUST WATCH THIS TOPIC INSTEAD OF DROPPING IN ANSWER TO GIVE FOLKS WHO AREN'T ON THAT FORUM AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHOW THEIR BULLET IDENTIFICATION SKILLS!

Here are three pics from different angles of two bullets. They are one in the same (brand, weight, etc.). Can start off with no hints, just see if anyone knows their sh*t when looking at recovered bullets. Can move to hints if no one can identify these. Once identified we can post snaps of other recovered bullets, repeat, etc.

No dice, not Barnes Vor-tx. But thanks for playing!

(BTW, on the other forum first guess was also Barnes. LOL )

I'm going to guess Hornady GMX since Barnes was my first guess too.

LOL, no dice - not Hornady GMX. Smiling because that was the second guess on the other forum, too. :)

Barnes 308 TAC-X?
Change is inevitable; progress is optional.

It's a Barnes.

Okay players, first - it's not a Barnes bullet. Nor a Hornady. But thank you for playing :)

Second, a hint: It is .308, and by Winchester. Anyone? Anyone?

ding ding ding - Mike is the winner!

Those recovered bullets are Winchester Razorback XT 150gr .308. That monolithic gilded bullet is quite unique in appearance. Congrats, Mike! Feel free to share with the members why you elected to propose the Razorback XT 150gr bullet?

Okay, next one up for identification.

To make it more real-world a quarter has been included to provide scale.

Looks like a shotgun slug from a shottie like an SLP.

I don't shoot enough slugs to know much about them.

Definitely a 12 GA rifled slug. Could be a Federal Tru-Ball.

So we're on the right track. 12 gauge slug is correct. Not Federal Tru-Ball, though.

To narrow down for anyone interested, this 12 gauge slug is by Brenneke. Brenneke has a number of slugs, and they are all unique. Anyone know which slug this one is?
