Some Loads

Post by MikeyS » 09 Oct 2022, 14:13

Couple loads I worked up with some old school powders that I've used for decades, out of a PSA Rock and using an F1 Chrony.

40 gn Jacketed (VMax, Sierra jhp and Hornet softpoint):

4.3 grains Green Dot
1720 fps
262 ft. lbs energy

Extreme spread was over 100 for the VMax and the average deviation wasn't great either. Putting that down to the difficulty consiistently measuring flake powder out of the RCBS powder drop. Anything under 5 grains it seems to have trouble with using flake. Accuracy was fair, but my eyes aren't that great any more and I am still getting use to the pistol. Flat based bullets saw a much better average deviation and extreme spread.

40gn VMax
3.8 grains Unique
1410 fps
176 ft. lbs energy

Pleasant to shoot. Wonky extreme spread. Fair accuracy. Haven't tried flat based bullets with this load yet.

53 gn lead cast with gas check (Lee 55gn flat point mold)

3.5 grains Bullseye
1332 fps
ES 76
AD 11.1
208 ft. lbs.

Going to use this as my practice load. Much more uniform powder measuring using Bullseye.
