dicing up gun powder to finer powder for better velocity?

I was talking to one of my friends about friends about reloading and he told me about how he uses a coffee grinder To Dice Up His gun Powder Into Much Finer powder For His.380 And He Says It Burns Much Smoother And Adds to His Velocity. Does Anybody know If This Is True Or Not?

Thats what I Told Him I told Him Im Not Shooting Any Of His Reloads Lol. He Said He Has Done It And it Works. I Had No Comment Lol. I Said i Got My Own SAFE Style Of Reloading And It Works Pretty Good For Me.

This is worse then "Blending" your own powder. This guy is to stupid to realized just how stupid a thing it is he is doing.

I might try running some power through a grinder but only for the purpose of setting it on fire & satisfy my inner pyro.

Depending on the powder most likely it will actually slow down the burn rate.


It's called inflammation and that is the rate it takes the flame to cover the piece of powder.

Burns rate are set by how fast this happens. Shape has a great affect over this. Shape and size dictates how much surface area is exposed to oxygen. By grinding it up you are reducing this surface area. With a denser particle there will be less oxygen in the mix slowing the burn down.

Well I literally just met the guy at the dog park on Tuesday. He was a really good guy super nice but he told me he was new to reloading. He stated that one of his buddies told him to grind the powder finer for better velocity. So he tried it and he said he gained velocity and all that junk. I didn't believe him and said you are completely changing the burn rate and characteristics of the powder. I never heard of that before it sounded pretty WHACK to me that's why I posted a thread on it cause I never heard of that before. He was serious to he wasn't joking or anything.
