SS190 w/ Accurate #7 Questions

Post by m70b1jr » 22 Jan 2024, 14:04

Hey guys!

This may have been covered else where - I did try searching for it, however i was curious if you guys have any load data for loading SS190 into unfired / factory casings using Accurate #7, what kind of velocities I should be getting, and if I should use a higher quality primer for this load.

Much appreciated in advance!

So you have the 31gr bullets?

If you are loading full power small rifle primers are best.

Yessir, 31gr (pulled) projectiles, I was just curious what brand primers I use to make the highest quality round I can. Also unsure how many grains of #7 should be used.

Dimensionally the S190 bullets are the same as 27gr 192/195/198. Just a little heavier. So any load data for the 27gr will work just knock it down .2 to .4 of a grain. I would start with .4 reduction of a grain.

I've only used Rem 7.5 small rifle primers in FNH brass and had no issues with pierced or popped primers, FWIW.

I think any quality small rifle primer would meet your needs.

Just my opinion here, but I wouldn't use Small Pistol Primers in 5.7 at all. I know that some people do and I've heard reports that some manufacturers might be. However, the published loads I've seen are all specifying Small Rifle Primers. Further, it's pretty well known that 5.7 is very hard on the primers and primer pockets. Because the Small Rifle Primers have a thicker cup. The thicker cup means less likely to pierce or blow out.

Unless you just can't find Small Rifle and are forced to substitute, stick with the Small Rifle.

Peace favor your sword,
Kirk

American eagle and SS197 use pistol primers. From what I can tell besides 192/195/198/ all the new 5.7 ammo use pistol primers.
