Thanks for the test! I'd like to see either the same shot out of the PS90, to see how the boost in velocity effects performance, or a shot of 9mm Gold Dot 124gr+p looks compared to the 5.7 as a control test. For example, is the peak tumbling damage of the SS198 greater than that of the 9mm.

One of the things I've noticed w/ the clear ballistics gel tests is that they tend to look uniformly less impressive than with the FBI gelatin.

Wildcard test would be to see whether filling the hollow tip of the SS198 with wax provides enough structural integrity to prevent the jacket from collapsing in penetration tests.

Jacket at least in SS198LF is not collapsing in clear gel in 5.7. I will see if I can do PS90

PS90 test would be awesome! I've looked around and there's not nearly as much in terms of gel testing with the PS90.

As for filling the tip, that was more for a future IIIA test. I noticed you mentioned in the comments section that the SS198's "ability to penetrate soft armor all depends on how the jacket performs as it tries to penetrate. If it can keep it's original shape it's going through. If it mushrooms in and out, then usually it gets stopped."

This reminded me of an idea that I had awhile ago, about whether filling the hollow cavity of the SS198 with either liquid plastic, or beeswax as panzermk2 suggested, would prevent the deformation:

I'm very curious about what effect this will have in terms of penetration, as well as the effect on the projectile tumbling, and quite possibly the overall penetration in gel due to the few grains of added weight.

Since you are the penultimate tester of 5.7, I was selfishly hoping that you would be interested in carrying out the experiment. If it works it could pretty much solve any issues with factory ammo penetration.

The tumbling is quite similar to 5.56X45mm NATO (.223) M193. From my combat experience, the tumbling is quite effective albeit the penetration with the FiveSeven isn't everything I would want. I know Elite Ammo does a good job. I wish that FNH would consider a better round.
