I keep coming back to read this post hoping that someone actually mentions something about new ammo availability.

Update on the AE on sale at AO in Smyrna - perhaps by coincidence, there are CASES of AE posted for auction on GB.com by a seller in Smyrna, GA. Hmmmm. Current price is at just over $300

At $60 per box, my limit is 0 per day per week. I have no ammo, but I can wait for the prices to drop. I would like to have some ammo and shoot my new toy, but I have plenty of other guns to shoot that I already have ammo for. I don't lack for range guns, ammo, or protection, so I will be darned if I pay those prices for a box of ammo.

Okay so I lied. But I really did just walk out with seven boxes of AE at $19.99 a box. And left a few for the next guy. The sign said limit two but the guy let us go with the old limit of five :)

I'm glad to see a trickle of everything from ammo to components showing up. Maybe the madness is on the way out.

D&L Shooting Supplies here in R.I. has plenty of SS197 and AE, but the price jumped to $45 and $39 a box. I only bought 2 boxes. Prices on all other ammo is up too.

Just received email from Cabelas that my 500 rounds backordered in December is shipping tomorrow at $21/box. Long wait but hopefully it is a sign of things getting better.

Finally!. My LGS has about 10 boxes of FNH SS197SR on the shelf for $29.99 per box. 1 box per customer per day but at least we're finally seeing some again. This is the first they've had all year and then some.

Same here, my LGS just got 197 in priced at $29 per box, limit 1 box. I don't want to give away where my honey hole is, but I did want to give some a little hope that it is showing up so don't go paying stupid auction prices. Maybe it is finally starting to ship.

Yippee! Recovery is starting to make an impact on prices, even on GB. Some of the GB auctions are down to $.70-$.75 per round instead of the $1/round bs. Also, there is a box of S4M on there which is going for about 1/2 what I have seen them go for about a month ago.

Now if we can just keep the .gov from needlessly buying billions more rounds, maybe we'll actually see things return to pre-chaos norms within a couple of months.

Or did I just jinx us?

On the other hand, a LGS is charging $46 per box of SS197 & they are calling it a bargain. Too bad for them that I not only know better but I also know how to reload.

my local gun range has or should I say had 197 for $26 a box they only had 5 so I kindly took them all.
my range rocks and there ammo prices beat ammo store prices funny how that is.
they wont ship and had higher prices on ammo if you were gonna buy and walk out as they want you to shoot there but if more come in stock i will let local Cali people know so they can get some. didnt notice if they still had higher prices if you walk out with ammo
it called the gun range in Sacramento

As I've mentioned in the price check thread, I've bought several boxes of SS197 and AE57 for $30/box in the past few weeks.

I saw some SS195LFs at a gun show for $45/box....judging by the prices on GB I kinda wish I would've snagged a box or two...

Unless it is a private party who has under priced his ammo, I find $25 unlikely right now for a 50-round box.

Looks like demand is starting to go down quite a bit here...

Wow, I stand corrected. Picked up some, $20 shipping. Net cost is $.58/round. Since 45acp is going for .50 or so I can live with that.

I'm that way with hoarding ammo....I have to be prepared for a zombie apocolypse.

I have a new Gander Mountain store opening up tomorrow...dunno if they stock 5.7x28mm but if they do I'll be cleaning them up.

It appears that the five box limit is not for 'each day' but for a 24-hour period to expire since your last order. The weekend MAY count a one 24-hour period since it is rejecting me placing a second order and it has been slightly over 24 hours.

I wonder if that 24 hours starts from the time your order was actually processed through the system (i.e. when you finally get your e-mail confirmation).

"Here" is anywhere that is applicable when people do as they were doing - making new threads without bothering to check/read existing ones.

I thought this was the recent ammo thread, did I miss somthi

Post by Jim300 » 12 May 2013, 14:36

I signed up for email alerts from several sources and I got an email from a source that it was in stock. I have all I need for the moment but came here to post that it was in stock as a courtesy to the group. I copied the link strait to the web site before opening this forum and noticed someone had already posted that the company had it in stock. I simply left the link to save people time of looking through the site for the ammo. We all know it can be a matter of a few minutes of missing the deal, so I tried to make it as quick and easy for the group as possible. Was this the wrong ammo thread to add it too?

No, this was the right one - the sarcasm is for the others who made new threads to post the same link.

Ok, thought I posted in the wrong spot for a moment there. I hope everyone got a shot at a few boxes.

It is interesting (to me, at least) that ammoseek doesn't reflect the Natchez inventory, but does show Cheaper than Dirt and AmmoAce as having AE, albeit at $51.19 and $70 per box, respectively!

I wonder if that 24 hours starts from the time your order was actually processed through the system (i.e. when you finally get your e-mail confirmation).

I bought 10 boxes "na na na na na!!!"

But to answer the other questions, I didnt have to wait 24 hours. I ordered the first batch of 5 Saturday night then the Second batch of 5 at 12:05am Sunday morning. Finally I can go to the range now.

The FN57 was starting to gather dust (figuratively of course because I'd have to wipe her down if she got dusty at all).

Congrats on getting 10, a lot of us got five.

250 rounds doesn't last very long; going to have to practice slow, bullseye shooting instead of steel plates.

For those inclined, ammunitiondepot.com has a package deal in stock of 200 bulk packaged SS198 rounds, 4-50 round FNH P90/PS90 magazines, and a .50 caliber ammo can for $329.97...about $1.00 a round for the SS198 if you deduct the cost of the mags and the ammo can. Personally, I think I'll pass. ;)

A local Gander Mtn store just opened up...they had just about every caliber except for 5.7....

They said they should be getting in some SS195s though.

GM will charge at least $40 per box for 5.7 - unless they pulled their heads out of their cornholes in the last 4-5 years.
That was the price I saw on boxes of 197 in their store before there was any chaos to be worried about.

Just had a very interesting result for a gunbroker.com auction. I just won an auction for a 2,000 round sealed case of SS192 for $2025 [auction# 340826529]. The part that is causing a bit of concern is that the seller is unrated which raises a potential flag given the size of the purchase. I am exploring a couple of ways to build some confidence, such as closing the transaction on a face to face basis, or using an intermediary.

The point that is particularly interesting to me is that there are a number of auctions for the same ammo where the reserve prices have been averaging closer to $2/round...examples of current auctions being #340902222, #341827196 and others. I realize that > $1/round for this ammo isn't anyone's idea of cheap, but when SS198 is selling for the same or higher, I think I may have lucked into what I would refer to as a proceed with caution or potentially good deal.

Finally, if I am able to close this out at the price I paid, I would be willing to part with some of it at a reasonable premium, perhaps 10% above what I paid for it if anyone is interested, however this is not an offer to sell, merely me thinking out loud. With AE at $.80 in most places, me thinks that $1/round for SS192 isn't such a bad deal....welcome your thoughts.

As I recall, gunbroker is like ebay in that you have legal recourse should the item not be delivered or as promised.
Everyone has to start somewhere & I don't know of anyone who had positive reviews before they bought/sold anything.

As for the price - you're saying you didn't paying enough? :skep: I'm sure the seller would accept more if you care to make up the difference

I appreciate your thoughts..and am merely thinking out loud.....everyone deserves a chance on a first transaction and I am just seeking to be careful....legal recourse exists but isn't the way anyone would want to go if it can be avoided. As for pricing, far from complaining, rather am a bit stunned in that my sense is that its a reasonably good deal in this environment...just concerned that it may be too good...like finding a $2K SCAR 17...thinking about making a road trip from Chicago to Lexington, KY with range visits along the way...the Illinois State Rifle Association Range is in Bonfield, IL....there is a public range at Ft. Knox if my memory is correct...if I can plug in a couple of other stops...think I have a buddy to make the trip it could be a nice break.

I am just somewhat surprised that this particular auction didn't grab more attention.....I tried to cite examples of comparable listings for SS192, as well as other full case auctions....I guess I just am cynical enough that I don't expect to find a decent deal in this climate. I will update progress as this unfolds.

Just some thoughts: have you communicated with the seller and asked for some basic info, like name, address and maybe a copy of a drivers license (if the seller is an individual), or if a business, for enough info to separately research him/her or it? Are you paying by credit card? Do you know anyone in Lexington who can check on the person?

Your thoughts are appreciated....after 30 years as a CPA....I have a sense of how to approach...my sense since he won't take credit card is I will do this FTF....which is an excuse for a road trip. The idea here is that while there are plenty of means for recourse if there is a problem first off...I think I got a deal and am willing to give the guy a chance..merely going to take some steps to build confidence...my favorite expression "Trust everyone but tie your camel to a tree".

not to sound mean or anything but did you ever think of any of this before you placed your bid? I do not know how GB works as that place sucks azz but maybe thats why no one else bid on this great find of yours.
2000$ is def something to worrie about can you pay-pal him some just to know he is real and you have a connection? is there anything else besides driving down there? That ammo gonna get real costly after that road trip.
hopefully you can find a way to feel safe and make your deal good luck

Actually....I won the auction and spoke to the seller...his father was an FFL dealer that gave him ammo for his birthday......and yep....I managed to get him to sell me the rest of it for the same price.....so I am going to pick up FOUR unopened 2000 round cans of SS192....picking it up face to face...all of the details worked out.....and he is getting a bank check. I have a friend that works on base at Fort Knox....so we are going get this done in a safe location. The next step is figuring out whether there is a reasonably fair way to share some of it with all of you. At this point, NO PM's please I am going to need some time to figure out what my needs are, what my local buddies need, etc, and then there should be a way to share some of this out. FINALLY and NO I am not counting chickens until I have physical custody of the stuff.

That is still a helluva road trip. Factoring in the cost of the trip, that ammo isn't such a good deal after all.

On the other hand, if you have a reason to go there aside from the ammo then that helps considerably.
Have a safe trip.

I am going with a buddy....going to spend a half day shooting at the Illinois State Rifle Association Range in Bonfield, IL....the French Shooting Club at Fort Knox....and trying to find a long distance range in Indiana for the trip back.....so I get out of my office for the first time in eight months.....a bunch of shooting time...and pick up a bunch of ammo....seems like a plan to me.

SS192 pre-Nov 2012 was $30-40 per box of 50 rounds, so figure ~$.70 per round. In fact one of our sponsors here, Big Dog Outfitters, sold some cases of it for $35/box IIRC. Paying more than $1600 per case is over-priced. Remember it's a only a 28grain HP projectile and while some ballistics testing shows perhaps better terminal ballistics than the SS197, there are other projectiles that perform equally well or better at a more affordable price point. In fact, you can pull SS195 as the projectile is the same and load it with leaded primers to mimic the SS192 if so desired.

But from your other posts it appears the 5.7x28 reloading path is in your future, so you will see some of the other projectiles and how awesome they are. :)

Enjoy the road trip. Sounds like loads of fun.

Again...two other sales to provide some perspective:

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIt ... =342179749" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIt ... =341614896" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIt ... =342405706" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I could get rid of all of it locally at a minimum of $1.80/round if I wanted to...the market is insane.....

But...I am more excited about the trip.

You know, that's probably because the AE 5.7 ammo doesn't even show at Natchez if you search the site using the directory=Ammo/Handgun Ammo/5.7x28 FN (http://www.natchezss.com/ammo.cfm?conte ... category=3" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). You have to use the general search function for "5.7x28" or something like that for it to show up.

Around central Indiana they charge 24.99/box of AE when they do have it in stock. Couple bucks higher for the FN.

That's great, maybe they had enough complaints about ridiculous prices that they stopped shafting people?

Speaking of AE though, there is a LGS that has a 500 round case for $375. Thought about buying it but I still can't justify $.75 when I have so many that I can reload.

LG-Outdoors has AE 5.7 in stock for $37.49 / box ($35.62 per for 10 or more), which, after the Natchez price seems a bit steep, but no apparent limit on quantities. They show 338 in stock as of this moment.
