Issues with Blue/white box SS195LF?

Post by Raps6088 » 02 Nov 2020, 14:12

Hello everyone. My first post on here. Just joined because I picked up a CMMG banshee 100 with an 8” barrel. Slapped it on my sbr lower to try out.

Ran a box of SS197SR through it and it seems to really like that. Zero problems, shot great. I tried some SS195LF and I was about 50-50 on failure to fires. Hammer fell but had a lighter primer strike. Even tried loading them back up to shoot again. Not a single one would go on the 2nd try. Any known issues with these rounds? Harder primers? They do have a crimped primer which it appears to be seated every so slightly deeper than the SS197SR. Thanks

Might need to clean your firing pin channel. Lacquer and crap will biuld up in it. Even more so on a new gun that has sharp corners on the new firing pin opening.

Just an fyi SS195 also uses small rifle primers.

Thanks Jay. I’ll start there and it a good douching. Crazy that it would build up that fast considering there was only a handful of rounds through it.

Interestingly, the SS195LF rounds that did fire had a noticeable softer recoil impulse than the SS197SR.

So SR primer vs SP primer? Harder or thicker cup?

SR is thicker unless you get into magnum primers.

SS197 has a heavier 40gr bullet so you would feel more with it over the 27gr SS192/195.

Now if you get EA's 27gr S4 with the same bullet as the SS192/195/198 you will feel a LOT more kick.
