Cracked PS90 magazines?

Post by GV00 » 29 Jan 2009, 12:20

So, a little bit of background. I had my PS90 out doing a routine cleaning and inspection on it, and decided to pull the mags I had stored out as well and take a look at them. Thanks to a light across the room catching the mag at the right angle, I noticed a crack a couple of inches long along the back of the magazine near the top, close to the feed ramp. Running a fingernail over it, I couldn't feel any disruption in the surface, and it was fairly straight, so I thought it might simply be some manufacturing anomaly. I checked a few of my other magazines, and one had nearly the exact same crack, while 3 didn't. An inspection of all of them showed that 4 out of 7 of the mags I have have some cracks in them -- this is especially troubling, since I haven't even used them yet, they've just been sitting in a padded case for months!

Is this a common issue with PS90/P90 mags, or am I correct in thinking that something is very wrong here?

Its been an issue with used mags, people slapping them down to seat them, but this is the first I've heard about new ones having cracks. Still have the receipt? Any chance of return/exchange?

Nope, the receipt is long since gone, but I'm 100% sure they were new mags -- very reputable dealer, still in the boxes when they arrived...that may be why I didn't notice until now, I just loaded them up, made sure they fed rounds, and stashed them in anticipation of a future range trip. Just my rotten luck, especially noticing now when prices are absurd on everything...

guess polymer isnt as strong as the gun manufactures would like us to believe . Never had an issue with metal mags except for maybe a weak spring

The Important Questions:

1. Who made the magazines? (FN, ATI, etc...)
2. How many rounds is each mag?
3. How many rounds have been through each mag?
4. Do you slap them in when you shoot them?
5. care to post a picture?

1. FN
2. 50 was the original 30
3. 400 maybe
4. Yes until recently.
5. I will have to take one. It's around the round section.

VZ, your link had almost nothing to do with the other thread you posted it in and barely describes whatever problem you are having. All we can see with that link is that your mag is cracked & this is the closest thread we have which deals with said problem. Hope it helps you.
