Remington 700 in 5.7x28

Post by Grantness » 24 Jan 2009, 14:48

Im wondering why we havnt talked more about this. I havnt done any research myself, but have noticed some products while cruising Midway for chambering a Rem 700 in 5.7x28.

A 5.7x28 singlel shot follower for the 700: http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.e ... mid=444370" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
(could this be made to work as a multi shot follower?)

5.7x28 Bolt Body for Remington 700 (does not come with bolt handle, ejector, extractor) : http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.e ... mid=946373" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

5.7x28 pilot reamer for Remington 700: http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.e ... mid=214389" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

What caliber would you convert?
Anybody know anyone who has done this?

It's come up before. I don't know anyone here who has done it. Maybe the guys on saubier.com.

Political tags — such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative,
and so forth — are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want
people to be controlled and those who have no such desire.

I've thought about it. Coming up with a used rem SA and then buying all the stuff... would take months and a lot of cash when I've got other projects higher on the list. Would be cool though, great ranch rifle for squirrels and coyotes.

I'm working on it. I got a brand new 700 SPS-V in .17 Fireball for a donor (I made a great trade with my local gun shop for the 17, I should be able to sell off the V stock and heavy barrel to help fund the build, plus I got the SPS rebate from Remington). I just need to make some more extra cash to get my gunsmith really going on it. I think I have it figured out to keep this from being a single shot, but only time will tell. My gunsmith did say though that he would rather re-work the factory bolt to 5.7 than use the one from Midway, and he would also rather have a 700 barrel unchambered but pre-bored for .224 so he can control all the chambering. I'll keep you guys posted.

cool :thumb: No sense in doing a single shot...a T/C would be a lot cheaper if thats what you wanna do. Let us know how it goes!
