New and need help with ar57

Post by joelnagy1 » 04 Nov 2015, 19:10

Hello, everybody. I just purchased a 12'' ar57 upper and put it on top of a Palmetto State Armory pistol lower. Mounted up nice and tight but when trying to put the magazine on it does not seem to sit all the way down on the upper ( the magazine release will not fully engage into the magazine and the handles are left just loose) and the bolt will not cycle past the magazine lip. It is the FN factory mag. It seems like it is too tall and sits too deep for the upper if that makes sense. Are the ar57 magazines a little shorter where they snap into the receiver?

Have some pics?

AR57 magazines are substandard copies of P90/PS90 magazines.

It is the FN factory p90 mag. I will try to post some pics. It just seems to big. Will not snap all the way down and will not let the bolt slide past.

I spoke to people at 57Center and the gentleman told me the magazine release is supposed to be loose when a magazine is inserted. He said it is supposed to be that way so it can accept various magazines. That does not sound right to me. Can anybody with a gen 2 upper tell me if their magazine release handle is loose when a magazine is inserted?

I have a 12" Gen2 upper. With a magazine in the handles do have a slight wiggle to them. Empty they don't. The slight wiggle has never been an issue for me. I have both AR57 mags and FNH mags and they both lock in tight. I have never had any feeding or charging issue with either type of mag either. Do to another recent report from a fellow forum member I believe there might be a quality control issue going on. If you lived in my area I would be willing to check it out and we could compare uppers to possibly determine the cause.

Figured. I ordered two new magazines and should have them tomorrow to rule out a problem with the magazines. It just does not click back closed almost like the catch on the magazine is not low enough.

Did you ever get the chance to try your new mags to see if that fixed your issue?
