FN 5.7 USG vs the new FN 5.7?

Post by 2ndAMVa » 29 May 2013, 05:38

Does anybody know the differences between the FN 5.7 USG and the new FN 5.7 (is that the Mark II?)?
Any dimensional differences? New feature advantages?

Would love to hear from forum members.

Slide cover, I believe. Serrations @ the front of the MkII and fixed sights.

There are a couple of threads regarding the MkII changes & characteristics, the variations thread has a couple of pics if you're interested.
Still waiting for someone to do a thorough review on it though, preferably with holster comparisons - does the new model work with all the old accessories type thing.

Contrary to popular belief, you CAN fix stupid - it's just illegal.

I got my FsN FDE (mkII) last night. Slide is thicker towards the barrel end. There are other differences: slide is one piece and definitely beefier than my USG, noticed differences in the slide rails, the barrel, the trigger is slightly different, the lock spring for the mag release is easier to get out now to switch to lefty, the rear sight is of a smaller platform for the adjustable (meaning I can't use my Burris FF mount), the rail is a little different... plus the pistol feels slightly heavier. Some small differences include the extra serrations up front, and the labeling. The mags are interchangeable, well at least they both fit and I can cycle rounds.

I tried it in my MTAC holster, and it works, though is notably tighter due to the thickness. I think it works because it is a hybrid. I have a Blade-tech coming (for a TLR-2s) and hope it works, but have my doubts. I don't have a fobus or the like, but I don't expect a solid kydex holster will work with it... I expect the defensor leather holster will work OK, which I should have soon I hope.

I don't do reviews, and haven't shot it yet. Expect it to shoot just like my USG :D

Jolly Rogers, does it appear the adjustable combat sights would be able to be installed on the usg model? That would be sweet!

@Batman, I honestly don't know. My USG has the adjustable sights, and I replaced it with a base for a FF. The sights on the MKII have a much smaller base. Gotta good closeup pic of the non adjustable sights on a USG? I can post a close up of mine for you to compare also...

JollyRogers,
Your black cowhide holster for the FN 5.7 has been sewn, formed and molded. Tested the holster fit today, and it works great.
It will go through it's first dyeing process today.
Will keep you posted.

Best,
Dennis
