First Time Post - Thanks.

Post by texguy » 03 Mar 2011, 08:29

This is my first post here and wanted to say thanks for having a place like this where there is so much information available. I found quite a bit of useful information in your posts.

The newest gun in my collection is the FiveseveN. I've had it out to the range just once so far and put about 150 rounds through it to get it sighted in for me, try various loads, and make sure all 3 clips worked. The gun functioned flawlessly and was very quick and easy to sight in. In addition, it was a breeze to clean after the session.

I thought I'd pass on some things that I've noticed so far. I found that when you fully loaded either the 20 or 30 round magazines to capacity with the "blue tipped" rounds that they were hard to get to seat in the gun. If I took out one round they went in and seated easily. When I filled the magazines to their max with the 27 gr. hollowpoint they seated just fine. Not sure if anyone else has noticed this or if it is unique to my experience.

After seeing several recommendations for the vendors who have links on this site, I did order 1000 rounds of ammo from FiveseveN ammo. It was quick and ez to order and the ammo arrived within a week from time of order. Very pleased with their service.

I did get a Crossbreed SuperTuck holster for the 57 to try it out and see if the gun could be carried easily. As you know the pistol is kind of big but the light weight makes it fairly comfortable to carry in the ST. At any rate I quickly realized that when the gun was in the ST it had the habit of engaging the magazine release, which was really annoying. I thought about cutting out a section of the horsehide but then opted instead for just switching the release to the other side of the pistol. Not my ideal situation but one I can live with. Anyway thanks again for all your helpful info you all post. Here's a picture of my gun and the ST. As you can kind of see in the picture with the gun in the ST that I'd switched the magazine release to the other side. BTW, the process of switching the release is very easy, though I had to use a little plastic tool that came with the gun to do it.

Others have had similar issues with the holster depressing the mag release button - they cut a notch in their holster as you mentioned and believe they were quite pleased!

Congrats on your FsN :thumb:

Congrats & welcome to the club! I carry my FsN all day every day in a Crossbreed super tuck and had the same issue. Cutting a small notch fixes it - you can put the mag release back on the left side.

Welcome to our forum :)

Another Texas? I'm in Austin (UT, hence the avatar).

Where do you call home?

Thanks for the welcome and replies. I might try notching out the holster and move the release back to the other side as that's where I'd prefer to have it.

Blueorison, we live about 40 miles or so south of Austin. I get up there once in a while but most of my time is spent in San Antonio.

I've never had an issue with the mag release and the ST. Even 40 minutes of go-karting!

I think some members of the forum have had problems with the 30 round mags, but your difficulty with the 20 round mag is a head-scratcher. :ponder:
