Re: Confused, do I need laquer for a FiveSeven

Ok, I see what you're saying. Give it all a good clean with SG, and any that's extra shiny may be compromised and needs to be set aside for when Savage releases a bolt action...

Re: Confused, do I need laquer for a FiveSeven

Yep, I'll take that advice, but how do I find out if this other guy damaged the lacquer coating by tumbing them in corn cobs?

Sorry, middle of the night post, he tumbled it in a vibratory tumbler with dry media.

Re: Confused, do I need laquer for a FiveSeven

Necro! I got some once fire brass from a guy, and dumped it in my sack o brass. He called, said he had more dirty stuff, did I want him to tumble it first... I said, did you tuble the last batch. He did :( I told him I'd take it dirty, and also into the sack o brass it went. Problem is, I now have a...

Re: Tumbling vs Expansion

It seems all EA stuff is out of stock until they can get supplies, so until I can chase down some T6 I'll have to roll my own. I have a box or two of the VMAX stuff, and a couple boxes of the AE stuff. Only about 8 rounds of the little lead free ones. Would I be better off pulling the AE stuff and r...

Re: Flat Primers

Picked up Lee's factory crimp die and a Chrony. Those 185s are actually running 1385fps average, but #5 and 6 in the cylinder are still backing out under recoil. I've also been running 230gr Berry's plated at about 1205fps with the same 1/2 turn crimp, and they don't move a bit, awesome plinking rou...

Tumbling vs Expansion

During my recent foray into long range AR load developement, I've come to find out that since the gubment can't use true hollowpoints other than OTM boolits, they've concentrated (since Vietnam I think) on getting little boolits to tumble or yaw after entering the bad guy. The 855 round is notorius ...

Re: Removing the mag "safety"?

Couldn't you cut the very tip off that engages the transfer bar, there-by disabling the mag safety, but retaining the downward tension on the mag?

Re: Grimmonds CE 40gr ESP Raptor loads

Awesome info, thanks for posting. I didn't realize how efficient this cartridge is, hitting 50% the energy of an AR-15 with a quarter of the charge, very nice. Do you have any expansion tests planned?

Re: Let's talk about copper boolits

Midway put these boolits on clearance. Only $3.56 or something off though, and I don't even have dies, so I'll have to take a pass and hope I can find it somewhere else.

Re: Let's talk about copper boolits

Do you run them tipped or open? Have you had a chance to shoot anything gooey with them? No True Blue around me, just a pound of Blue Dot, but I'll write down your recipe, thanks.

Let's talk about copper boolits

I'm seriously considering replacing the bedside .45 with a bedside FiveseveN, but the Vmax isn't gonna cut it. I've got a press and bench, so I thought maybe I could make something better. I looked at the Bee HPs, the 40gr FMJs, but what caught my eye was copper boolits. Barnes has some 45gr HP and ...

Re: Flat Primers

I took her out again today, this time with the cases loaded up with Unique, and had a much better time. I still need a roll crimp die, my 5th and 6th boolits are backing out a hair from recoil, but nothing scary. I did start to flatten some primers at the end, but not until I was running those 185 H...

Flat Primers

All I have are large pistol primers, and I'm pretty new to reloading, so I've been reloading alot of .45 Colt. I shoot them through a .454 though, so in case I make a rookie mistake, I have about 40,000 PSI of wiggle room. I generally load to max or +P pressures, and with all sorts of 230-250 gr boo...

Re: Confused, do I need laquer for a FiveSeven

I don't want to remove it, just wanted to know how necessary it was for my pistol. If it needs to stay on there, I'll go with the RCBS sidewinder instead of the vibrator tumbler so I can clean them in Simple Green as I've read here on the forum. Edit: The Hornady ultrasonic cleaner is way cheaper th...

Confused, do I need laquer for a FiveSeven

I've been looking for an hour now, and I'm not sure the answer. Is the laquer coating necessary for the FiveSeven, or just to get the boolits to feed in the PS90 magazine? I'd like to reload, but if I need the laquer, then I'd rather go with the sidewinder tumbler. Thanks.
