Re: Speer 33gr and 50gr TNT bullets

Interesting. I need to find someone with a chrono to check mine.

Re: First 5.7 x 28 Loads

5744 is not looking so hot right now.

I am going to try 5.8 Grs SR 4756 with the 45 Gr SP. Probably no more.

Re: Speer 33gr and 50gr TNT bullets

Anybody near Montgomery Al, so we can take a chrono out together and shoot them side by side with the same loads?

The factory 197SR load seemed to be in line with what I have seen listed from 16" PS90 barrels. :ponder:

Re: First 5.7 x 28 Loads

I went to the range again after the rain finally quit. I brought some factory 197SR to see what it would do from the AR 57 barrel. I also brought a couple of reloads with me as well. Loads fired in 16" barreled AR 57 - 60 degrees at 99% humidity. 197SR 40 Gr V Max - 1.570 to 1.580 O.A.L. Hi-2126 Lo-...

Re: Speer 33gr and 50gr TNT bullets

Well I shot the Speer 50 Gr TNT loads. On the first one I fired the second one had the bullet pushed back into the case, spilling powder. What a mess. I had to clean up and then hand feed each one. There is such a short length of base that is .224 that it has very little neck tension. The bullet is ...

Re: Speer 33gr and 50gr TNT bullets

I got 10 each Speer 50 Gr TNT bullets loaded and ready to go. (1.570 to 1.580 O.A.L.) I am headed to the range. If the rain holds out I'll post the results later on. To get the O.A.L. down to 1.580 I had to seat the bullet so deep that some of the sub .224 diameter part of the base is down in the ne...

Re: Speer 33gr and 50gr TNT bullets

I have some Speer 50 Gr TNT bullets. I will try some of them with True Blue, maybe today. I am getting ready to put together some loads to shoot today or tomorrow, if the weather holds.

Re: AR57 Optics / BUIS / Mounting Challenges & Options

I mounted a S.P.O.T. Aimpoint knockoff on my AR 57 and it allows the mag to be removed even mounted forward as pictured. It is in "high" mounts for a lower 1/3 co witness when BUIS are used. The S.P.O.T. scope is pretty nice. It's definitely not an Aimpoint, but much cheaper. A short barreled AR 57 ...

Re: Ramshot Silhouette and Viht. 3n38 powders

I hate to pay hazmat for a small quantity of powder, but I guess I could go ahead and get 4 Lbs of Clays while I'm at it. That would help spread the cost. If the temp is not too cold this weekend I'll fire some factory loads to see what velocity they are giving in the AR 57. My reloads are cyling th...

Re: Ramshot Silhouette and Viht. 3n38 powders

The first, immediate cure (not really a cure more like a "band-aid") is to increase the recoil spring weight. (maybe even increasing the bolt carrier mass I do not have a PS90, but I intend to experiment with a Wolff extra power spring and heavier weight buffers in my AR 57, which would essentially...

Re: First 5.7 x 28 Loads

I do not see it on their website anymore. Maybe if you call them. It really just gives a "close enough" for most work measurement. A headspace tool is far more accurate. I use a button cut from a 6PPC barrel and partially chambered to check how much I push back the shoulder for cases in my Bench gun...

Re: Powders that work/Powders to try

If not, it might be a good idea for us to list what systems the powder has been tested in. Thoughts? Absolutely. That is why I listed what firearm and barrel length they were shot in. 5744 may not be feasible in the pistol, even with heavy bullets, but once I settle on a load with 55 or maybe even ...

Re: Powders that work/Powders to try

My initial test of 5.8 Grs of SR 4756, WSP primers, 34 Gr Dogtown bullets and 40 gr V Max bullets went quite well. Just a start, but a good one. Shot from a 16" AR 57. 62 degrees in the shade and 70 in the sun. Gun and ammo warmed in the sun on the hood. 5.8 Grs SR 4756 WSP primer - 34 Grain Dogtown...

Re: First 5.7 x 28 Loads

The rain quit and the sun came out. 62 degrees in the shade and 70 degrees in the sun. I let the loads and the rifle warm up on the car hood and got started. :D ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6.2 Grs True Blue WSP primer - 34 Grain Dogtown @ 1.469 O.A....

Re: First attempt at reloading- Question

1.159. Sure about that? My factory loaded 40 Gr V Max 197SR loads measured from 1.570 to 1.580 O.A.L.

Difficult to load in the mag how?

Re: First 5.7 x 28 Loads

I was hoping to find some 3N38 at the gun show today, but did not. I am going to try it for sure. I guess I'll have to order some. I am going to try progressively heavier bullets with 5744. 45,50,55, maybe heavier, it all depends on how the 50 & 55 Gr ones go. I do not know the twist rate on the AR ...

Re: First 5.7 x 28 Loads

I loaded up some more 34 Gr Dogtown bullets and 40 Gr V Max bullets. I used 6.2 Grs True Blue, 5.8 Grs SR 4756, and 7.5 Grs 5744 (Just one each of the 5744) I hope to get to the range tomorrow to run them over the chrono. :thumb: http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x37/Walkalong/Loads3thru8Pic1.jpg

Re: headspace for 5.7 pistol

Maybe I'll try my hand at making one, or just get the Lee setup. I almost ordered the Lee tool when I ordered dies, probably should have. I have a Possum Hollow set up for .223. I wonder if it would work, or be modified to work. I'll check into that as well. Thanks.

Re: headspace for 5.7 pistol

I have an RCBS and a Forster trimmer. I have 3 collets for each, but none work with the 5.7. Does anyone know which collet # I need for either the RCBS or the Forster? Thanks, AC
