Re: Subsonic loads go unstable only with can

Looks like it was the muzzle too close to the first baffle.
Things started to come out of the can a lot better after I corrected the spacing.
60 grain v-max may still be on the heavy (long) side... I think I'll take Jays advice and try 55s...
Thanks for the help!!!

Re: Subsonic loads go unstable only with can

First, panzer thank you for your input. I appreciate the help. I found this on another forum... and I am running an adapter on the spectre that might be putting the muzzle closer to the first baffle. I will have to measure tonight to check. What do you think of this? "Keep in mind that some .22 rifl...

Re: Subsonic loads go unstable only with can

I disassembled the suppressor and inspected the baffles...
No marks or dings at all.

I understand that even with the faster twist barrel that these may not work.
I am just trying to understand why I don't get any signs of instability with the no suppressor.

Subsonic loads go unstable only with can

Just like the title says, my subsonic loads look great... They cycle the slide. Are stable at 15 yards. Are subsonic. Until I screw on the suppressor... Then the keyholes start. Has anyone seen anything like this Here are the details: Fiveseven pistol 1:8 twist barrel (yes I know 1:9 is standard) Mu...

Re: subsonics for a 1 in 8 twist FiveseveN

Normally the FsN has a 1:9 twist, where did you get the goofy barrel?
It was made from a Bartlein 5R 1:8 Blank. Threaded M10X1.0 RH.

subsonics for a 1 in 8 twist FiveseveN

I have a 1 in 8 twist threaded barrel for my FiveseveN and am working on the paperwork for a suppressor… Now I am starting to think about subsonic reloads. Does anyone have any thoughts as to how well an 8 twist barrel will stabilize a 62 grain bullet? Should I start with a different weight? Also, a...

Re: Rem 700 5.7x28

I've been so busy with work that I haven't had time to mess with it...
Looks like it is going to be a winter project.

Side note: It does a number on ground hogs at about 100yrds!

Re: Rem 700 5.7x28

That was @ 100 yards with a bit of cross wind from left to right... so, it does look promising. I did some longer range shooting yesterday with some friends in western PA... I can tell you one thing, it's not a very good 500-600 yard gun!!! (not that I thought it would be, but I couldn't resist tryi...

Re: Rem 700 5.7x28

Got a couple of rounds through it after work.
SS197SR
2160 fps
Not a bad place to start... with a little load dev. it
could be a shooter!

Re: Rem 700 5.7x28

It's a recycled remington barrel... a take-off from a 22-250.
I pushed the chamber back and recut the treads to match the blue printed action. Also the bolt started life as a stock Rem... it took a little work, but came out nice.

Re: Rem 700 5.7x28

Single shot for now...
The plan is to use an altered twenty round FiveseveN mag. I'm pretty sure that it can be done, I just haven't had time to mess with it yet... plus, I want to see how it shoots with the 1-14 barrel.

Rem 700 5.7x28

I built up a Remington 700 chambered in 5.7x28 a couple of weeks ago... I'll be sighting it in and testing this weekend with factory ammo (just ordered dies this week). http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/z418/mxgobig/Rem%20700%2057%20x%2028/IMAG0001.jpg http://i1188.photobucket.com/albums/z418/mxgo...

After market barrel questions

For those of you with aftermarket barrels, is the 10.5mm outside diameter (not the bore, the OD where the spring and bushing ride) chrome lined? My stock barrel “appears” to have a layer of chrome on that diameter, I assume so that the bushing wears rather than the barrel. Also, had anyone ordered n...

Re: New 5.7 Q's

In the metal forming and stamping industry, that condition is referred to as “double break.” Most of the time it is a symptom of improper punch to die clearance. It is kind of an ugle edge condition, but it should not effect the function of the firearm at all.
