Nasty new 12 ga slug

Post by Vortec MAX » 31 Aug 2009, 22:17

Just take a look at this nasty 12 ga slug I ran across:

Image

In the description online, it says:
When hitting the body, the frontal part of the slug instantly increases from 18.5 to 36-38 mm in diameter – this is the largest slug expansion diameter ever known. It creates an entrance hole with a 3.5 cm diameter, hits powerfully with all its expansion area and disintegrates into six symmetric splinters - essentially becoming six individual blades. The splinter cone causes an extensive area of damage. The unified effect of a hydrodynamic and pneumatic shockwave inside the body, along with splinter damage, ensures a unique instant stopping effect with the Hexolit 32 slug, which provides good results even with imperfect hits.
All I can say is OUCH!

At 3 bucks a trigger squeeze that thing had better detonate after impact, too.

But it really does look impressive, if it works as advertised and those blades separate inside.

Might be good for the ol' closet shotgun.

From the Website on the gut shot wild boar.

"The overall slug impact effect was instant – there was no agony."

All I can say is wow. The way it appears to be constructed I would guess it wouldn't overpentrate too much.

I might have to get some just because it'll give me the ability to use a slug with my (non-removable) full choke.
Ammo-to-go has them, but they are pricy.

Good bear defense ammo looks like. I wonder if the expansion is a detriment to penetration :ponder:

It will be, but who cares when the expansion is that much. As long as you have the velocity to penetrate at least 5-10 inches, it's a moot point IMO.

Looks like it, on their test vids it looks like none of them even hurt the plywood after going through the ballistics media.

Click the vid that is second to the bottom of this page:

Hexolit32

They actually shoot a bear, then show the penetration through the lungs.

Dayamn. Hard to argue with that. It went all the way through and came to rest just under the hide on the opposite end. Thats exactly what you want. That second slug he loaded looked like a Remington sabot slug. I wonder why he had it in there.

When I saw the Hexolit 32 hit that ballistics gelatin, I was amazed. That is a seriously nasty round. The block appears to be 16 to 18 inches deep. The round goes all the way to the backside of the block without penetrating but the initial wound cavity was amazing. The block jumped right off the testing table.

100% of the energy was transmitted to target. Awesome.

There's a video of it hitting a watermelon in this video (near the end). It vaporizes. I've never seen anything like it before.

Sometimes people forget how much kinetic energy shotgun slugs have. Some slugs have more energy than a .308 winchester.

This may be a silly question, but I have to wonder what that would do as a home defense round. There's no question it's gonna put a hurt on the BG's day, but since it didn't *quite* penetrate a bear, what could one expect in a house or apartment?

Just make sure you have an extra mop-head and an insustrial sized bucket of simple green. Lots of old rags would be good, too. You may also want to have The Wolf's number on your speed dial.

Home defence whats invading your house a 300 pound grizzly on pcp lol  . Certainly and impressive peice of ammunition. Would be interested to see what it would do to a big angry boar. Anybody no the reason for its development?
