FortyNine vs FNP-40

Post by 57IOM » 28 Nov 2008, 18:32

I checked the FN website, and don't even see a .40 listed...

Am I right that the FortyNine is a different gun than the FNP-40? Do all the FH .40 magazines interchange, or is each model a different mag?

I have NO clue about the other FN pistols, other than the FiveseveN.

Just doing a little research and know this is the place to go! :thumb:

The FN FortyNine preceeded the FNP and is now discontinued. The idea was to have one frame that would work well with both 9mm and .40S&W.

Thanks Esteves.

I'm not sure which FN site I found that only had the 5.7 and various 9mm's.

Will the magazines interchange between the FortyNine and the FNP-40?

You were probably looking at the belgian site.

I'm not sure on the magazine interchangability between the two. From the glossy photos, the major angles look similar, but that means zip.

I was looking for a holster for my son's FNP40 and had to call Jay when I ran across one for the FortyNine. I think he said the FortyNine was based on the Browning frame and FN was trying to get away from that and improve on the design at the same time and the FNP series developed from it. Different gun with similar mechanics, but very little is interchangeable. I wouldn't count on the magazines switching out and working.

I have a chance to buy an FN in .40, but I'm not sure which model. I haven't seen the pistol yet. So I guess buying a couple extra mags isn't a good idea until I know for sure which model it is.

Its not at a shop, just a buddy that is looking to sell.

It should come with at least 3 mags.
