Gun Mounted Light w/ Laser - Review/Poll -updated 7.13.10

Re: Gun Mounted Light w/ Laser - Review/Poll -updated 7.13.
I've had no problems with my X5L G2 and find it very easy to operate -- 6 modes of operation. When I first installed the X5L, I did not tighten the light lens down after inserting the battery -- the light/laser would not work. Checked on the Viridian Forum and found the answer -- the light lens must be snugged down (tight). Fixed the problem. The G2 uses a CR123A battery.

The Veridian X5L has been the best light/laser combo that I have used. It has out performed any streamlight I have used. The X5L gen1 had its quirks but they were ironed out with the GEN2. I ordered a GEN 2 from BOTACH and got a GEN 1. Sent it to Veridian and they replaced it. Also if you have a GEN 1 they will swap it out even for the C5L or you can pay them the differnece from the GEN1 to GEN 2 and they will swap it out for you. They have the best no B/S customer service in the industry.

GONRA really appreciates great replys to my
Viridian X5L Gen2 questions.
Correct battery is CR123A as some mentioned and as listed in http://www.viridiangreenlaser.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; X5L Gen 2 spec sheet.
Rechargable (maybe they all are?) CR123A batteries are available with as sets with chargers.
Today Viridian came out with a Big Announcement -
"ECR" technology. Can checkitout on their website.
ECR is not available for the 5.7x28 FN pistol.
Anyway, plan to get a X5L Gen 2
and battery / charger set in 2012 .
Thanx again and Merry Xmas / Happy New Year!

Here is an FSN with a Viridian subcompact C5L mounted. Raven Concealment Systems offers a light/laser compatible holster for the FsN and Viridian's X5L (gen 2). Please note that as is depicted below, Raven does not currently list the Viridian C5L in their laser-light selection chart.
Here is Raven's order form for the FsN:
Here is the light selection menu on the order form, offering only Viridian's X5L laser-light option effective Nov 2014:

Re: Gun Mounted Light w/ Laser - Review/Poll -updated 7.13.
I spoke to Viridian about the new ECR (or whatever they call it) circuitry. You cannot upgrde or trade in an existing C5L or X5L first or 2nd gen laser for the new one.
Armalaser and Laserlyte both have an old model trade in program. Viridian....not so much.
Which blows, because i have a C5L.
Only lasers made after Dec 2011 will have the new circuitry.

Hey ya'll I'm new here. I'm sorry if we're not supposed to dig up old threads, but I was searching for answers about Veridian X5L's and rechargeable batteries. I just ordered my 5-7, and an X5L (gen 1). Anyway the sight I found the X5L on just said it took cr2 batteries, and I have a ton of rechargeable ones as well as a couple chargers. Well I went to the Veridian site, and read that we shouldn't use rechargeable batteries in them. Does anybody know why? Oh and is there any chance someone has a pic (or link) of an OD Five-seveN with a black Gen1 X5L? ... And yes I have searched for a pic I've googled and binged it to death I just want to see it. NOW I come from a somewhat small city so I had to order everything online, and I'll have to wait up to 3 weeks for mine to get here. I wish I'd made up my mind at Christmas time, but I really wanted to hold a 5-7 before I bought it as it's going to be my main carry weapon. Anyway thanks all.
Re: Gun Mounted Light w/ Laser - Review/Poll -updated 7.13.
Hi Eric,
I think the reason for no rechargeables is due to the rate of power delivery. The lithium batteries can dump energy faster and essentially provide more "pressure". Here is an OD 5.7 with the newer Gen2 X5L.

Re: Gun Mounted Light w/ Laser - Review/Poll -updated 7.13.
Thanks for the pic and the info. Unfortunately after waiting a week for my 5-7 to be shipped I checked my status and they somehow cancelled my order. I never found the OD one I wanted. I did find what appears to be a tan color? It didn't look like the FDE. Oh and as for lasers Ya'll might disagree with me, but I decided on a X5L Gen1. I had a gen 2 in my order, but while searching for another one I saw pics of the Gen one. I prefer the light and laser centered and sunk back like that + after searching for ever online I found a used one for a little more than half the price of the Gen 2 I had ordered. Ohh and I guess I'll go ahead and order a couple packs of batteries instead of experimenting with my rechargeables.
So does anybody know of a fourth frame color? Kind of tan color. Maybe it is a FDE just a bad picture under some certain light I don't know, but I can't wait to see it in person.

I'm planning on buying a Surfire X400 but would also like to get the DG grip switch assembly for it. Surefire doesnt make and currently has no plan to make one specifically for the five-seven but they recommended using one for a gun they do support that has a similar trigger guard profile. Does anybody know if any of the following guns have such a profile?
Glock 17, 17L, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 31, 32, 34, 35, Smith & Wesson M&P, Sig Sauer P220R, P226R, P229R, HK USP Compact or fullsize 40/45, Beretta 92FS/96FS, 96 Vertek, Standard 1911, Standard 1911, Kimber TLE, Springfield XD Standard Frame.

Some pix of my Viridian C5L mounted to my FsN w/threaded barrel. I HIGHLY recommend this unit, especially the new ones which have auto on circuitry:

A China slave made this x400 clone. $125.00. Have a real one also, the only difference is the clone has a brighter light (250 lumen).

You can add another to the poll.
Laserlyte just came out with this low profile utilitarian-looking light.
It's isn't cool-looking, which is a reason why I think the majority of people voted for the Viridian.
http://www.laserlyte.com/products/fsl-3" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It can mount to pic. rails, so it can go on your carbine or FsN.
What I'm pretty intrigued about is that the Laserlyte original laser they sold as their flagship is no longer listed on their page, and I can't find it, anywhere on their site. I never really liked it.
This latest one, if it can hold up to recoil from the FsN, etc. might be a good addition to your AR.

Pretty sure this is the same "tactical laser"
And yet they can't spell "incredibly".

I had that model, it's ok, but the activation buttons are way too small for it to have any real world "tactical" use on a defensive weapon. I gave it to my dad for plinking.blueorison wrote:You can add another to the poll.

It is not even remotely close to being in the same range as the Viridian. I think the viridian does so well because it A) Looks cool, B) works really good, holds zero well, and has nice big buttons, and C) it has a really bright strobe light built into it as well. (I also own a Viridian C5L).
I've used most major lasers on the market today, and have owned several on several different platforms. Crimson Trace and Viridian are a cut above the rest IMO.
The Armalaser SR2-635 is a better option in the same price range. I have one of those too. It's even smaller, and is a much brighter 635nm dot, whereas the laserlyte is a 650nm unit (unless they've recently updated it).
Here's a pic of the Laserlyte unit on my custom railed HK P7:
Like i said, i gave the laser away.

I finally joined the Five-seveN club and bought a MKII to go with my PS90. You can add the Crimson Trace Railmaster Pro to the list. (http://www.crimsontrace.com/products/ty ... master-pro" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) It mounts securely to the FsN. Now I just need to go sight it in.

Re: Gun Mounted Light w/ Laser - Review/Poll -updated 7.13.
Just a shout out. The veridian x5l works fine for me (picky). I would like to say that anthony's leather makes the best holster in the world for this combo. This is not only a gentleman; he's an artist with gun leather. Think the extra months of waiting was well worth it (he needs more people). He'll do anything to make the customer happy. Feel I owe him that much; for the time on this new pattern. I told him my endorsement would be a curse over a blessing. Sorry, spell check is out; and peace.
Re: Gun Mounted Light w/ Laser - Review/Poll -updated 7.13.
Also, my x5l looks nothing like that pic; so I'm scatchcing my head. Also, optics planet lies allot; and they reporty directly to the fed so beware./
