Evanston Proposes AWB With CONFISCATION - No Grandfathering

Tomorrow evening, June 24, the Evanston City Council is proposing to pass the most DRACONIAN AND UNCONSTITUTIONAL "AWB" in the United States...its provisions include the confiscation of semi-automatic rifles owned by private citizens with no grandfathering of ownership it says

9-8-15: CONFISCATION AND DISPOSITION OF ASSAULT WEAPONS (A) Any assault weapon possessed, sold or transferred in violation of Section 9-8-14 is hereby declared to be contraband and shall be seized and disposed of. Whenever any assault weapon is surrendered or confiscated pursuant to this Section, the Evanston Police Department shall determine whether such assault weapon is needed as evidence or warrants further investigation and if the same is not needed as evidence, it shall be destroyed.

If you believe in the 2A we need a HUGE turnout at the Evanston City Council Hearing June 24, at 7PM at the Evanston City Hall....try to come 45 minutes early and sign up to speak...we need to make our voices heard. If they pass this ordinance, we are prepared to file a lawsuit in Federal Court to prevent it from becoming law...just as was done after the SCOTUS decision in Heller. The NRA and Second Amendment Foundation backed that litigation and we expect them to join again this time

Even if his/her position was appointed, the person who appointed him/her was probably elected.

Gentlemen...

I have the unfortunate distinction of living in Evanston,IL....part of Cook County, and perhaps as of tomorrow evening having the distinction of having the first municipal AWB in Illinois with a confiscation provision to be effective as of July 9. I have been slugging it out in this fight for a very long time. I was one of the named plaintiffs when NRA had to sue the City of Evanston for cert to SCOTUS when the town wasn't going to fight Heller. I have a suit ready to go if they pass this legislation.

The help that I need is your chiming in and supporting posts on the blog I write for the Evanston Patch entitled "An Armed Society Is A Polite Society.

If Evanston follows through with an AWB, you can always move to Goreville, IL. There, residents are required to own a firearm. Here is an article from 1983 discussing their ordinance.

Well if this don't sound like lighting the fuse on a keg of powder, I don't know what does. I hope it does not pass. If it does, things could get real ugly. If I were a law enforcement officer there, I would refuse an unlawful order.

I heard the Evanston meeting did not go our way though and they will likely be voting in 2 weeks.

I don't think I would say that the Evanston meeting didn't go our way...given the make up of the town it went better than expected...I made it into three newspaper articles and the TV news on one so we are trying.
