RL 550B Case Feeder

Post by K2 Tactical » 30 Jan 2015, 22:23

I recently purchased Elite Ammunition's 5.7x28mm Shell Plate for the Dillon RL 550B. I have one nagging question. Which case feeder will work for this?

Yes. I just got a reply from Double-Alpha Academy (Mr. Bullet Feeder). They said that their bullet feeder will work and only requires a station in the tool head. I would need to combine the crimp and seating into one station. Lee's Custom 5.7x28mm 2-die set should do that nicely.

So, the only thing now is which caliber would work best on the case feeder side for the 5.7x28mm. I'm inclined to think the .38/.357 might work but, I differ that to brighter minds than mine to answer that question.

Lee's seater die will not give a good nor proper crimp. That's why they just came out with a factory crimp die.

Ok...so Lee is still the die set you'd recommend?

I use Lee dies for most of my sizing and seating and then I run them thru my CH4D crimp die. I stick to loading on a single stage press for the majority of my 5.7 loading.

I recommend CH4D which is why we sell them.

Great...! Thank you guys for clarifying the best dies for this project. So....what are your thoughts on the case feeder. Has anyone tried this before? What works and more importantly, what doesn't.

Never tride a case feeder on a 550.

According to Wikipedia, the case length for the 5.7 is: 28.83 mm (1.135 in). The same web site states the .38 Special is: 1.155 in (29.3 mm).

With this in mind, I would think that there is only -0.02 in difference between the two rounds. Not enough to be a problem since this same case feeder works with the .357 Magnum, which is 1.29 in (33 mm) or 0.135 in longer than the .38.

Your thoughts...?

By the way, I just sent Dave of CH4D a request to see if they can make a 2-Die Set that would work for this.

I think I am now treading in unmarked territory…just think…someone willing to see if you can trick out a 550B for the 5.7…!!!

Think of the possibilities…

Dave at CH4D says, "seater die is a crimp seater".

But it is not a crimp die. 2 different things.
