OOPS - Trimmed .308 cases too short

Post by blaster1 » 13 Apr 2012, 12:21

I tried my new trimmer and something must have either slipped or I did the setup wrong and ended up trimming 38 once fired cases to a length of 2.001" instead of the desired 2.005". :( The first two cases I trimmed came out perfect so I thought I was good to go but evidently that was not to be. For you more experienced loaders out there; are these suitable for use assuming I keep the overall cartridge length acceptable? It seems as if doing this the case volume would be the same and there is only slightly less cartridge engagement with the neck.

I would think it's fine in a battle rifle, but lets see what the pros have to say.

Should be fine I mean that is pretty close and since it's shorter it will lead to lower pressure for the reasons you already mentioned. So yes they are useable but won't be the same as a case trimmed to the desired length of your looking for super accuracy but in my opinion should yield fine results, that's my .02

If it does not work for .308 keep trimming and use it for 45 Super.

I'm curious how many times a case can be shot...
You could turn short 308s to 300 Savages.
Then to 44 Automags.
Then to 45 Super...(Am I missing any...?)
Would it workharden the base of the case, or does it mainly effect the neck...?
