layout looks great! like your histry page that lists items to be updated/comeplted...

couple of ideas:
1) maintenance - cleaning, oiling, nanolubing
2) safety page - not directly FNH related, but would be good overall addtion. genreal safety, when you hadnle, carry, range, hearing protection etc

good stuff guys!!

Good ideas, I made up a quick page for firearm safety, covering the 4-rules and hearing protection.

Fuzzy,
Looks good and I know its still developing, but here are a couple of thoughts. Do what you want with them.

1. A history section where you describe and show the different variants of the FsN. I know we have (or at least had) pics of almost every variant produced in this forum.
2. I don't know if it goes under Reloading or Factory Ammo, but maybe a description of ammo available to civilians beyond what FN provides (specifically, I'm thinking a link or reference to EA).
3. Under factory ammo, we had a bunch of ballistic and other data (and pics of the different ammo) of the different rounds (both current and discontinued) on this forum that could be included.

We had some problems with the links to the Wiki after the server change. Most of the main links inside the Wiki should be working now. If you find any problems, feel free to report them to me.

Due to many many requests, most of my load data (except for some of my T/C loads and the temporarily secret Trident data :p ) is now available to any member via the Wiki under "Reloading" and then "Reloading Data".

Fuzzy, came up with a list we can sticky for newbies. Many of the newbies and other members have asked for this info to be posted repeatedly, but I haven't seen anyone post anything yet so I went ahead and did my best to cover the issues that came to mind. Let me know if my rhetoric and content is cognizant of the quintessential.

Newbie intro questions to the FsN:

1. Accuracy: Did I get a lemon?! Why is my FsN so inaccurate?

This is undoubtedly the first question that comes to mind the second new owners shoot their FsN's at the range. Calm down, breathe. You did not receive a lemon. The majority, if not all the members here have had to acclimate their shooting technique to the FsN, you're not alone. The FsN's incredibly light, low mass body makes it difficult for users experienced in shooting full steel guns like 1911's to stabilize and control their sight picture.

Envision the FsN as a snub nose revolver with a DA only system. Every minuscule movement of your wrist, trigger finger, palm, and muscular support effects the FsN's POI significantly; this is not reticence, merely a boon that will allow the opportunity to take your pistol training to the next level.

With that in mind, breathe, exhale, take up the slack, and press the trigger to the rear. Then repeat, enjoy, and smile as you improve your shooting technique.

2. The sticker. What do I do with it?

The sticker atop your slide is just a marker for the factory to index your firearm at the factory. You don't have to keep it on your FsN, and it is not necessary for any warranty etc. You may remove it, and if it would offer you an improved peace of mind, there is a spot on your factory papers for the sticker. If you can't find it, just stick it somewhere... then get back to shooting.

3. Holster wear: Oh no! My pristine plastic slide! It has holster wear!

This complaint is quite common. However, holster wear on the FsN from holster such as the Blackhawk Serpa are often so minute that they cannot be ascertained from photographs. Relax, it's a firearm; tools are meant to be used, not babied. That being said, we do love our beautiful FsN's; if yours has a bit of holster wear and this does not sit well with you, all you have to do is get a new slide cover. That plastic slide cover is easy to pop off and replace. So get back to shooting action pistol or your pistol course with no constant worries in mind. We've had members run their FsN's harder than any glock will ever attempt.

4. Overpenetration: The ammunition question.

One word. Nope. It might seem counterintuitive that a high velocity round would not overpenetrate. The fact of the matter is that you have to consider the round you're using. Countless tests with various medias from ballistic gelatin to pork shoulders have proven the ss197 will fragment and not penetrate; this is what it's meant to do.

Remember those 40gr or 50g polymer tipped rounds that you loaded up for your varmints and prairie dogs for your hunting AR? Don't forget, the 5.7 shoots the .224 round, also. The ss197 is a 40 gr bullet that is exactly the same round as Hornady's 40gr red polymer tipped 40gr round. They are meant to fragment. This is unlike the lighter grain bullet in the ss192 and ss195LF that are meant to tumble within the target media.

If you'd like better penetrating ammunition, you might want to look to the S4 or S5 by EA. A better description of ammunition performance and characteristics are located in the ammunition section.

5. Muzzle flash: OH WOW.

Exactly. We FsN owners get a kick out of this; even at night it's distracting, but anyone who has shot in low-light or at night knows that you don't exactly get "blinded". Be safe and have fun, and if you'd like you can get a threaded barrel (a few companies offer these) and put a flashhider on the end of your barrel.

-------------

well I gtg to my Dr's appointment. Will continue this thread later.

Not bad blue, at the very least it is a good start. I'd also like to suggest the "where do I get a holster" question as well BUT no sticky will work if they don't bother to look. So much easier to click the "new topic" button than to use that cleverly hidden search box

Great start blue!

I agree with Rapier though, people don't read sticky topics when they're searching for stuff. Most just do a quick search and then post their question. But I would like to see something like this in the wiki, that way we can refer them to it.

6. Sights: Fixed vs. Adjustable (2 versions)

FsN's have begun to ship out with fixed sights with the option of fixed night sights, also. These have been sighted in for ss195, not ss197. There are still adjustable sights available, which might be useful for reloaders and sports shooters versus the duty aspect of fixed, non-snag sights. There are also two versions of the fixed sights for the USG; early variants have had minor problems with adjustment issues. If you have mechanical trouble with your adjustable sights, contact FN or EA and they (especially the latter) should be able to give you good advice. However, it's more than likely your sights are the newer version. If you're not putting your shots on paper, it's not your sight that's broken :)

7. Accessories: What can I do to deck out my FsN?

For those who wish to purchase upgrades; there are a plethora of equipment available to them. Lights, lasers, and even MRD's. There are inumerable light and lasers available such as those from Streamlight, Viridian, etc. However, perhaps one of the biggest boons to the proprietary field of FsN development have arrived in the form of mountable MRD's. This form of mod has been pioneered by EA and Truehuntersupply, both sponsors of this forum, have mounts available for the public. The job is feasibly a DIY, but can be sent to a smith and performed in a few minutes. It simply involves removing the FsN slide cover and rear adjustable sight. The EA mount comes with built-in adjustable sights. For more information, visit EA and Truehunter's part of the forum; information on the sights are readily available there. After the mounts are installed, MRD's from Burris, Nikko, etc. may be mounted to the FsN. Lights and lasers exist in the form of anything mountable to the rails, which is quite numerous. It's not advisable to mount a grip or grip-pod/bipod, however, as this would most likely put you in touch with the ATF faster than you'd like.

8. Holster choice: Where can I get a holster for.

The response to this question obviously hinges on the purpose you have in mind for using your FsN in conjunction with the desired holster.

CCW and duty? Many mainstream manufacturers have holsters for this. Blackhawk Serpa Level I/II/III, Fobus, Comptac, etc. all provide IWB and OWB low-profile holsters.

Sporting and recreational? Blackhawk's Serpa Level I/II/III also works for this purposes. Fobus makes a lvl 1 retention holster, also. In the past, holsters have been hard to come by, but as interest and sales for the FsN platform have grown, so has holster availability. You will be able to find a holster for your FsN from most of the major holster mfg's, currently.

Custom? Perhaps the most ideal due to the options of comfort and different modifications and configurations of ride, custom is most likely your BEST option for CCW and even sporting use. An even greater advantage is that you may not be able to find a specific holster for your light/laser accompaniment to the FsN; this is where custom holsters aid. The makers are able to mould kydex and leather to your needs, and the prices are usually quite affordable and below $100, well within your budget.

Rich at Custom Carry Concepts creates custom FsN holsters with light and laser combinations; whether it be IWB for carrying or a sporting drop and offset holster, he can set you up.

most likely will :)

I'll try to think up of more topics (ammunition, probably). Any thoughts? I don't think we need to make it too specific; correct me but it's more of a "guide tool", right? Helps narrow it down for people, then they can decide which specific tool they want, then they can come back and search the forum for the specific tool's threads.

FORUM SUPER UPDATED AND CLEANED

Went through ALL the FsN, P90, FS2000 etc. pages and the main page and cleaned up dead links, uncovered topics (covered them for FsN), and updated the main FsN page.

Check it out,

FsN

w/index.php/FiveseveN" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Main

w/index.php/Main_Page#Getting_Started:_ ... nd_firearm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

(My favourite part of the main page is the "choose your platform" pwahaha)

Ok guys let me know if it's all goody goody and what we need.

I basically told the newbies that the wiki is a tool for guiding them, and that for specifics, go back to searching the threads; I gave them direction into which section (EA, Ammo, Reloading, etc.) to visit.

*PS WE NEED SOMEONE to write up a SCAR (COUGH TAYLOR COUGH) section, also build up the Suppressor section for the FsN/PS90/P90 for the forum wiki. It would take like 20 mins max.

What's with all the backslashes? In the FS2000 section:
heavier \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"military\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" firing pin
This sort of thing is in other sections as well such as safety & PS90. My guess is that it is just something the format doesn't like about quotation marks - seems to be the place it happens most of the time.

And use spell check - we ain't rednecks :p Just messing with you, that's a lot of typing

If you're so inclined, the advanced search option will let you save a search as a URL, for example:

search.php?keywords=holsters&terms=all& ... mit=Search" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This does two things:
It provides a direct link from the wiki to up-to-date content on the forum.
It shows how to use the search feature to do useful things.

The content that needs write-ups should probably have stubs that say [CONTENT GOES HERE] or somesuch.

Thanks esteves. I'll keep workin on it; I get what you say, you're completely right. The advanced search tag would greatly benefit searchers by surfacing updated content and probably get people into the search system and using it much more efficiently.

I'll keep on it.

@Rapier: oh man forreal I had typos? I've been REALLY out of it because of school stress. My grammar and language has been all over the place. I'll go back and check the FsN article. The slashes appear when you use apostrophes so I've taken alot out. But I didn't get a chance to completely go through the rest of the articles besides the FsN and main site. The rest of the pages, I just moved the links to the corresp. page and made sure they worked.

I'll get on it.

There we go, wiki and archive are available to all. Thanks for bringing it up, its very seldom that I'm not logged into the forum, so I don't always see what guests are seeing (or not seeing).
