Downtime this morning

Post by f3rr37 » 08 May 2012, 09:33

I apologize for the downtime this morning. Not sure what caused the server to stop responding. Our host is looking into the problem.

You're not kidding.
It was raining, then pouring...the site goes down and I thought it was my internet connection. Except, I could go to other sites that don't matter, so..I knew my dsl didn't short out. hehehe

yeah same, just went online again, few mins ago.

I texted Fuzzy, he said it was under maintenance. I'm sure the actual techspeak is much more complicated, which is why I just responded, "ok!"

Yeah, sorry guys... the CPU on the server was pegged at 100% for some reason, we're working with the host to figure out why. Bing was indexing the forum at the same time this was happening, so it may be related to that. Then we went ahead and installed some updates since the forum was offline.

Looks like there was a technical issue with the web server when Bing was indexing the wiki yesterday. Sorry about the downtime, it was something we've never had to deal with before.

I've been making changes to the wiki content, but not anything that should have freaked Bing out.

Political tags — such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative,
and so forth — are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want
people to be controlled and those who have no such desire.

Who knows... even if they re-indexed the entire wiki it shouldn't have happened. Basically the web server wasn't closing connections when it should have been causing a lot of idle connections alongside all of the requests Bing was making... this caused the CPU usage to spike and brought the server to its knees.
