Shout box on the 5.7 forum

Post by Bones » 26 Apr 2011, 18:01

Would it be possible to have a shout box along with the wonderful 5.7 forum and make it for Gold and or Silver members only? Just an idea since we use them on a couple of other forums. I have no idea how many active members there are but it seems that a fe new members have jumped on. Its kinda nice to have if its possible :ponder: Thanks a bunch from the one and only Bones..... I shall get some tat pics up soon. We tried this weekend but with Easter and all it was kinda tight time wise.

I'd rather not... we already have a full-fledged chat.

True I guess but wouldnt it keep Bandwidth down since new threads wouldnt have to be created. Dont get me wrong. I am not trying to make anymore work for anyone. Its just a nice function.

I like shout boxes.
Never attribute to malice that which can be explained by stupidity.
The shooter will always matter more than the gear ever will.
Stop relying on others to do the work for you.
Shoot more, worry less.

I do to and we would probably get more people in there than the chat. Although at this point it might be more trouble than its worth for fuzzy

I support the idea of a shout box.

However Fuzzy has a real life. And he does a darn lot for us as is. So if it's more work for him I can go without it.

That said, is there something we members could do to help? Say if it needed to be coded and all you do is copy+paste into the applicable spot?

From wikipedia:
shoutbox', saybox, tagboard, or chatterbox is a chat-like feature of some websites that allows people to quickly leave messages on the website, generally without any form of user registration.

In their simplest form, shoutboxes are simply lists of short messages, possibly with information about their authors. The page may be automatically refreshed after a certain interval, or polled dynamically in order to keep new messages visible. Older posts are often deleted after a certain number of messages have been written in order to preserve space on the server.

Contrary to popular belief, you CAN fix stupid - it's just illegal.

Jeesh! Don't you guys waste enough time pouring meaningless streams of consciousness onto these pages without dumping even more dribble into the pool?

NO and with the shoutbox just like the chat you can chose not to join in. They're both optional. :D

Isn't this post a great example of such?

Most confusing . Having never heard of a shout box, above it is stated it is for nonregistered people but should be reserved for silver or gold members. I'm too old.
