Impressive Upcoming Round - Check it out

Post by jpmanciniii » 25 Jan 2014, 02:11

I thought this round is extremely interesting and would do well as a duty round for the FNX Tactical. What are y'alls thoughts?

That does look impressive.
If they get those other calibers out, I may pull down some .40 & reload them into 10mm. But something tells me these are going to be on the pricey side.

I would have to agree on the pricey side, though I don't mind spending a decent amount on duty rounds, which I've yet to get for my FNX Tac. I'd like to see how proven they are, they look impressive none the less.. that is for certain. Was it just me or did the gelatin they used looked un-normal?

Ballistics gel changes a lot depending on the manufacturer.
The only thing I would note is that they didn't show a calibration shot so there really isn't a way to know if it was within acceptable standards or just done for dramatic effect.

Exactly what I was thinking. Time will tell I guess, if the round isn't a hype round, it looks impressive.

Uh yeah. I think I'd have to call that a 'shredder' round.
I would NOT want to get hit with that.

What about the bystanders being hit by all the fragments?

uhhh

not impressed, at all.

In the vehicle of 9mm and the cartridges surrounding it, I believe it is not robust enough to create what is needed to disable the CNS in an "acceptable" hit. The petals will go shallow and spread AROUND the CNS and the only thing making it through would be the ~60gr? center.

But then, what do I know. I'm not a ballistics expert. :)

p.s. Gold Dot, all the way.

What are the chances of a CNS hit in a gun fight anyway? (I mean for us mere mortals, not you Blue)
A round like that would wreak havoc on internal organs though, if the gelatin is to be believed.

If it can get there.

Haha... very funny, D. I think I have almost the same chances of hitting the CNS as anyone if I were in a bad situation without time to prep.

They are planning to release this "technology" in a 12g shotgun slug?

Now that would be impressive!

Not sure that would be an issue... I don't think it fragments until it hits semi-fluid media; and, after it fragments, the individual fragments don't appear to have enough weight/inertia to exit with significant velocity.

I bought a few boxes of 9mm G2 research RIP and just got them in yesterday. Not sure how they will work but they look really cool.

Probably keep a box and sell the rest. I don't think I would trust them in a self defense situation. Prefer Elite s4m or t6b :)

Blogs aren't reliable references. That said, they can occasionally point you to something reliable.

That video being said, I will have to agree with the comments. I will also add though; that the potential for this round to be an awesome self defense round is very noticeable. Sort of like what EA did with the 5.7 round. I think the major leap or flaw, as shown in the video, is the ability for the pre fragmented pieces to penetrate further. Which I must add is very possible in the near future, as it is a new round.

I just read a report on this round at work, no body armor penetration and disappointing ballistics.

It's not supposed to do body armor, it's meant for internal organ damage. Buffman's videos weren't very encouraging on that front either :(
