I just did these tests sunday. PAFOA members Preill and CocoaP were also in attendance.
What is probably the ultimate 12 gauge penetrating round: The Remington/Barnes 3" Solid copper non expanding .50cal 1 oz sabot slug vs circa 1993 Safariland 25 layer IIIA body armor:
He shoots!
BOOM!!! But does he score?
A knockdown, but not a knockout.
I have shot this same vest with all kinds of .22LR, 9mm, 5.7mm and even a .500 S&W magnum.
In my tests only 2 types of 5.7mm (Elite S4M and FN SS192) have proven capable of defeating it.
No doubt that this shotgun blast would have caused severe bruising, perhaps cracking several ribs and maybe even puncturing a lung.

I can almost assure you that if the wearer of that vest was impacted by that round anywhere around the heart, the heart is going to stop.

In these tests they were using 7.62 rounds. Your 12ga sabot has at least twice the energy and almost three times the grain weight. Ouch!

Yeah, the impact of the 3" mag sabot slug on my vest would definitely have inflicted a world of hurt.
PS: I have since also shot SS195LF and Buffalo Bore 115gr+P+ MGHP through the test vest. It stopped everything else.
