As a kid I heard and read of cut shells and had completely forgotten about them.

That and the wax shells are old school. Due to liability reasons I cannot make recommendations, but guys have been using cut shells since before my dad was born and he is 66.

Same here. I remember a few friends and myself making and firing a few of them off as kids, but you wouldn't catch me doing that nowadays. Especially out of a pump. I think my invincibility and unlimited intelligence ran out around 23 or so. :D

I've heard some of the older fellas talk about them, but that was a long time ago.
Not sure I'd want to try it with an auto loader or a pump action. Still, nasty looking damage. Definitely would NOT want to get hit by something like that.

We used to cut them and use them at turkey shoots.

The wax rounds weigh less then the original so pressure would not be an issue.

I tried this a couple of months back. I used the "bulk" 100 pack remington green shells. From my experience, I had more luck when I completely cut the shell instead of leaving a little nubby attached. I had one that did not seperate and had to find something to stick down that 28" barrel to smack out the stuck shell. (Did not have a cleaning rod long enough with me.... inbefore thats what she said....) Had a great time destroying an old computer with those things. Super fun. Ran them through an improved cylinder choke if that matters.
