10mm bug. Twice bitten

Post by NLVMike » 07 Oct 2014, 20:34

I have the bug. Handguns call me with a certain Siren Song, and I am not sure I even want to resist. I fell prey to the 10mm a few years ago. I was in remission, but it came back. I picked up this Rock Island. I've actually had to do a lot to it to get it to run just right, but that is like most of my 1911's. Now that the work is behind me, I really like it. This is a pic almost stock. I bought 1,000 rounds of ammo, and I don't think it will last me as long as I thought.

GAH.

I was looking at it year ago. Did it not run right out of the box? Rock Island/Armscor guns usually are built pretty tank-like.

It ran, but not perfect. It's like having Jay accurize a FiveSeven. I took off the magwell and sanded a tiny bit of the cheese grater finish off the grips. The 10mm recoil was tearing up my hand. I changed out the recoil and main spring to #20/#23 based on the advice of the gunsmiths at Armscor. They are here in Nevada and are very helpful. I put in a short trigger and replaced the MIM sear with a nice steel sear from Brownells. The MIM sear probably would have worked fine after polishing some excess parkerizing off, but the other one was laying around.

The stock fiber optic sight is great. Really loving it now.

Jay, will do. I'm now going to sell the Witness 10mm. This one is just way too much fun to go back to the Witness.
