FNP .40 threaded barrels available?

Post by SpaceCoyote » 20 Nov 2008, 15:41

This may be a dumb question. I'm a 5.7 USG owner.

A buddy of mine just got an FNP .40 and he's looking for a threaded barrel? Searched online and didn't have any luck. So does anyone make them or do anyone know of someone who could modify the factory barrel?

Before I address availability, why does he want a threaded barrel for a .40s&w handgun?

For suppressor use. I'm not sure which brand of suppressor he is looking at currently so I don't know what size threads he needs. He's well aware of the legal status of NFA weapons.

Should this be in the NFA forum? If so, newbie mistake I'm sorry.

Barrel should be fine here, suppressor talk is relegated to NFA. Suppressed .40S&W is getting towards the un-necessary side, the bigger the hole in the middle of the suppressor the more area there is for sound to escape. Sure you can get more thump out of it, I just don't see the appeal of going beyond .355 for supressed work.

Back to the topic on hand, I don't think anyone makes one, We've recently found out about tornado tech, an online company that threads FsN barrels, you should check them out, they should be able to thread just about any barrel.

I'll pass along the max .35 cal advice. I already told him about tornado tech so I guess that's it. Thanks!

wouldn't a .45 auto be ideal? it is already subsonic and there are many platforms that already use suppressors, like the HK MK23 soccom.

Yes and no, you would get plenty of thump but, you've got nearly a half inch hole for sound to escape, it is technically going to be a lower pitch noise but, speaking strictly on a decibels basis it is going to be notably louder despite suppression. The suppressor is also going to have to be larger to have the same effect.
