Post by fasst95 » 15 Oct 2013, 15:11

Hey guys I recently dismantled my scar 16s and was left with a small funny piece of plastic that im sure ive never seen before it has 4 legs as if to fit into the slots in the upper and has a bullet etched into it. I have searched exploded views and nothin. Wtf is this part I can find no rhyme or reason for it to exist

We got the pic working so now maybe one of the SCAR owners can weigh in. You might also contact FNH. Sorry I can't be of any help.

I just took my SCAR 17 apart and couldn't find that part in the picture above, maybe it's only on the 16

Never seen that on the 16.

Where did that part fall from, or what did you disassemble?

Right now am thinking it's after market.

I did a search online & found a youtube video with one in it. I think the OP already saw it, there was a comment by a Fasst95 but it hadn't been answered. The video didn't explain what the piece was.
That was the only thing I have seen about it so I'm guessing it was something they tried & decided they didn't need it.
Just a guess though.

I'm thinking contacting FNH is the best option.

Yeah I checked with the guy on youtube and called fn and the guy from fn's response was "I have no idea what it is" he said maybe something a distributor put in. Hmm who know it fell out of the upper and was in the grooves between the barrel and the gas piston. I cant see it serving any purpose .

Have you tried leaving it out to see if it effects operation?

That part is not in the schematic diagram for either 16S or 17S. As you've learned by now.

Someone put that in. Perhaps contact a gunsmith specializing in barrels and stocks to get an answer as to what that part is and why someone may have inserted it.

I think it's a part that goes in the receiver rails just above the barrel locking lugs. It's there to prevent a round from jamming up over the top of the barrel in the receiver.
