Ive noticed that when I leave my cases in simple green or even water for too long (>2 hours), the laquer coating appears to wear off around the shoulder. Also, if any of those cases have scratches from the magazine, those scatches will become enlarged.
My question is: since this wear on the coating only occurs around the shoulder, should these cases still be alright to use? And am I correct in assuming that this is little more than a cosmetic blemish and should not really weaken the integrity of case?

Re: Degeneration of Laquer Coating
I don't know that it's the Simple Green that is removing the lacquer. I know that Simple Green supposedly dulled the lacquer finish on BMW motorcycle wheels, but that was all anectdotal evidence.
Since the shoulders push forward as a result of the delayed blow back design of the FsN, it tends to lose the coating there first due to the flexing and fire forming of the brass. The little scratches aren't much of a problem in my experience. When I get to 4x or 5x brass, I have a percentage of them with a significant portion of the lacquer scraped off. They still seem to work fine in the pistol. I have more problems with those in the PS90 related to their ability to roll against one another in the magazine.

Re: Degeneration of Laquer Coating
It was definately caused by both simple green and water on seperate occasions. The cases would go in looking pristine and if I accidentally left them in for too long they would come out looking like that.
Re: Degeneration of Laquer Coating
I haven't experienced this problem, but I rarely leave the cases in the solution for more than 15 minutes. Lately, I have just been using dish washing liquid w/ a little distilled vinegar added. I still only clean them for about 15 minutes, triple rinse, and dry in the oven at 220 deg. It could just be how long they stay in the SG solution.

Don't leave them in for to long
Water will on it's own will works its way between the brass and lacquer. Add a solvent to break up the contact surface it works faster.
See what MO has to say about firing it. The lacquer might be suspect and/or compromised on the rest of the case and give you issues.

I agree... these cases should not be left in ANY solution for more than an hour. I think I am going to limit them to 30min from now on. I just wanted to see what you guys had to say, cause I have about 150 cases that look like that and really didnt want to throw them out if I could help it.
Re: Degeneration of Laquer Coating
I have only been stiring my brass around in the solution for a few minutes, it gets the lube and any other crud off and out of the brass. I rinse and let air dry.
