Lee sizer die 5.7x28

Post by Darren_wells » 29 Aug 2017, 09:45

I just purchased Lee Die set 5.7x28 from Lee Precision. It scrapes the coating off the brass on 1st pass and it doesn'the seem to size neck correctly. I called Lee and they told me that I was using the incorrect sizing lubricant. I have tried them all same thing happens. Has anyone else experienced the same or am I doing something wrong?

GONRA sez geta RCBS SMALL BASE die set, RCBS #45 shell holder,
line it all up to any rotational "sweet spot" in yer particluar press,
(make it a Nice Robust Press, even it looks like "overkill"- to mantain headpace)
use STP Oil Treatment for a sizing lube.
All problems will go away....

Get some Mothers mag wheel polish and buff the edges and opening of the die. As to the neck issue you will need to be more specific as to how its sizing it incorrectly. For example is the neck not being reduced small enough, or to small.

If you search the re loading section you will that this is not a new issue. LEE changed how they make their 5.7 dies about 5 years ago. I used to recommended them. One of the forum members discovered this when his PS90 had issues. If the polishing does not work I recommend the CH4D dies we sell. They are the best money can buy and they come with a crimp die and shell holder.

I searched your sight but couldn't find any reloading dies. I called CH4D and they said it would be 3 to 4 months before they had any dies in 5.7x28. I would like to have them also. I purchased the go-no gauge. Please advise me how to order the dies from you if you have them in stock.
Thank You.

Yeah that is our wait time also from them. I am checking to see why they are not up on the website.

GONRA hadan RCBS Email exchange today (9mm Steyr dies) - got this sad RCBS reply:

"I am very sorry to inform you that we no longer offer Custom Dies.
The Custom Die department was closed in June,
and we can no longer make dies to specific dimensions, or to cases . "

WTF the damn <profanity>. I have at least 5 of their custom sets.

Well thankfully there is still CH4D.

Try Huntington Die Specialties, I know they did offer custom dies.

Many years ago I had a Powder Springs MAC-11 .380, back in those days .380 brass was almost impossible to come by so I had Huntington Die Specialties send me a .380 trim Die.

I was trimming 5.56 cases down to .380 length, then I had to inside ream them to hold .355 diameter bullets. It made for a really good reload for a MAC which are notorious for bulging cases due to loose chambers. In addition it left a shoulder for the projectile to be seated against.

I just sized 400 with my new Lee Die. I use LEE lube that I apply with a lube pad. They all cycled flawlessly in my pistol.
