Trimming the 5.7?

Post by Weshowe » 06 Feb 2015, 02:07

Gents,

How often are you having to trim the 5.7 when you reload them? At 50,000 PSI I'm assuming there is a lot of case stretch, but hope I'm wrong.

I'll be using a Redding three die set and #34 shell holder, also Redding.

Have Blue dot and AA #7 for powder right now.

Trim almost every firing. Mild loads you might not need to until fired the second time.

Yeah, at 50K and using the action from a 10/22 magnum, they get pretty beat up. I trim every time just to be safe.

Even though it may be time consuming and a pain, get in the practice of trimming every time. It will help to make your loads and pressures more consistent. Set the trim to 1.135" and it will all work out.

Gents,

Thanks for the confirmation on trimming each time or thereabouts. Luckily, I have a Gracey trimmer I can set up for that use that will speed things up considerably.
