Post Sample P90 Gun Range

I was considering renting a post sample P90 at a local run range next time I was down there and thought about carrying some of my ammo to save on the cost. Can the SS197SR be used in the P90 when firing in full auto without any issues or do I just need to buy what they have there?

The 197 ammo is fine but check with the range, they may require you to use their ammo.

All I saw last time was American Eagle at $31.50/box, the main thing they were concerned about was someone using steel ammo as it would mess their back stop up. They check every round that someone brings in with a magnet, never load your mags.

Post as in Post 1986, anything newer than that isn't legal for civilians to purchase.
Sample as in 'Dealer Sample'. Class III dealers of Class II NFA weapons are allowed to have SAMPLES that they can use to assist in making sales, usually to police departments and other SOT licensees.
P90, the military and LE version of the PS90.
Gun Range, usually owned by the Class III dealer who increases their revenue by allowing people who can't afford to purchase legal FA weaponry or those weapons that will never become legal, to rent said weapons and shoot an ungodly amount of ammunition through the pipes at a high rate of speed. Most have a modest mark-up on the ammo and insist that you only shoot theirs. Considering that weapons like the P90 will empty a 50 round magazine in 3.3 seconds, it can get expensive fast.
How do you find one? Google is your friend, but I hear that there are quite a few in Las Vegas.

There's one here in Pocatello and there are a couple in the Salt Lick City area. I wouldn't be surprised if there was one in Portland or Eugene. Like Fly said, try googling "full auto guns oregon"
I found this first try:
Albany Rifle and Pistol Club
29999 Saddle Butte Rd.
Shedd, OR 97377
Apparently they have shoots there but I don't know if they have rentals. I didn't bother checking deeper.

Thank you Cyber, thank you Rapier. The thread makes sense to me now. I might have to check this out.

I did get to shoot an H&K MP-5 at an indoor range in Scottsdale (AZ) a few years ago. The training consisted mostly of how to operate the action, warning us that the muzzle would rise and to hold it down, and to lean into the subgun to help keep it on target. Being like that Mad Magazine guy saying, "What? Me worry?", when it was my turn, I racked a cartridge into the chamber, took a good stance and a good aim and pulled the trigger...and let the muzzle rise to the point where I shot through and severed the target return cable near the ceiling of the range bay. Not a good day for personal pride and accomplishment. It cost me $90 for the rental and a mag full of ammo, plus $75 for the cable repair. (They were pretty calm about the whole thing and seemed to take it in stride. In my defense, though, I think their cable repair charge was based on previous experiences they'd had, so I wasn't the first one.) My buddies all had a great laugh, though, and it still comes up in conversation from time to time when it's my turn to get ribbed.

If I do something like that again, I think due diligence demands that I tell them of my previous experience and ineptitude....

:)

P90s aren't that bad when it comes to muzzle rise.

I just went to the Gun Vault in West Jordan UT (part of Salt lake City metro) and for rent they have a converted PS90. The price was not bad I think. also the have M249, MP5, M4 and AK for rent in FA. They have the usual semi for rent but also have a Barrett for rent, this is all in and indoor range.

Yes SS197 will feed all day long on a P90 as will SS195, SS198. It does get expensive at $30.00 a box all for about 3 seconds (with a mag dump). It is a very controlable automatic. Lean into it a little bit do short burst and you can get them all in a 15" target at 50 Yards!!!

249's are sweet. If somehow the opportunity to shoot a 240 ever comes along, do whatever you need to to play with that :)
