P90/PS90 Question

Post by eelepage » 10 May 2011, 04:10

Hello all, I'm new to the P90/PS90 club (researching prior to buying) and I have a question about SBR. I eventual would like to have both a PS90 and a P90, here's my question:

If I buy a PS90 then buy a P90 Upper Receiver, obviously the P90 Upper has to be registered/tax stamp as a SBR. If I put the NFA P90 upper on the PS90 stock, is only the P90 upper considered the SBR or is the whole weapon then considered the SBR? Is it legal to put a P90 upper on a PS90 stock if the P90 upper is registered or does the entire weapon have to be registered as SBR?

I'm trying to go the cheaper route by basically having 2 "guns" in one stock and still be able to take the PS90 into non-SBR states. Is this feasible or am I better off just buying a PS90 and P90 separately?

Thanks all

As far as I know, since the receiver is the serialed part, it's the one regulated by the tax stamp. So you should be able to buy two receivers and chop the barrel on one, but put both in the body at any time. It's like how you can put any un-regulated part on the regulated part of an AR.

Then again I could be quite wrong :)

if you're a civilian you aren't going to get a p90. Short barreling a ps90 only makes it what it is, a short barreled ps90 with NFA paper work because of the length. The defining factor of a p90 is that it is full auto, which has nothing to do with the upper reciever (correct me if i am wrong please :))

If you wanted to have two upper receivers and have one sbr, and another full length barrel, as to easily swap them out at the range, that's cool if you want to quickly change barrels. I personally don't see the point in it, but to each their own :)

If you can find somewhere that sells just the upper receivers for FNH rifles, let me know. I'd love to have a second upper for my FS2000.

Thanks for the great suggestions. I think ill just go the PS90 and then at a latter date buy another PS90 upper and have it chopped and stamped. I didn't realize the defining difference between the 2 was full auto in the P90.

I do a lot of private security and executive protection between Oregon (where I live) and Washington and do a lot or range training in WA. I shot my buddies PS90 SBR and fell in love (I thought it was a semi auto P90, so the confusion). Ill probably start with a full size PS90 and decide from there if I want to hunt for another upper to have SBR'd.

Thanks again for the help guys

buying a ps90 is definitely a good first step, can't go wrong there :D if you have $200 for the tax stamp i would submit the form to ATF as soon as possible, it can take a long time to get the approved stamp back.
Once you get it back then spend the cash to either chop and thread the existing barrel, or go buy a short barrel from a supplier. That's how i would go about it if i were to do it again.

I do a lot of live fire training on Larch Mt and Dugan Falls.

I've been through the tax stamp process before with a supressor, I hate "owning" something but have to wait months to actually have it in my possession. I'm thinking I'll buy a PS90 first and then get another upper receiver later and have it chopped.

What's a good length to chop the barrel? I want to stay as traditional as possible to the P90 and also need enough thread for a suppressor. Also, what's the recommended threading for a PS90 barrel?
